How do I stop my dog from stopping on walks?

I would use treats and enthusiasm. Only give a treat when the pup gives any indication of doing what they are asked. Movement forward or paying attention to me --- get a treat and praise. As they walk give treats, too. It may be especially helpful to give small bites of a treat prior to getting to the place where they stop and lay down. It might encourage them to keep going.

First, eliminate any possibility of spine, hip, foot, etc., injury, or an illness. Personally, I'd call a behaviorist for an evaluation. It could be a training issue. Have you ever brought treats along? I mean "righteous treats", something they NEVER get on a regular basis. Cheddar cheese, hot dogs, turkey, etc., cut in to VERY small bits. When you approach the area of occurrence, take out a treat and let your dog smell it, and take it, with an enthusiastic "Good!". Keep moving, you want them to realize it's a good thing to keep going. As you walk, every ten to fifteen seconds, give them another treat followed by praise. After a while you can start to diminish the treats, and substitute just praise. Best of luck!

I had the same issue with my dog when walking her! I have a Pomeranian and she always refuse to walk in middle of daily walking. When she first started doing this, I had know idea so I just forced her to walk and gave pressure onto the leash, however, this made her worse. I have realized to just wait until she feels like walking again. For my Pom, usually about 1-2 mins of waiting was enough. Also, another advice, never treat the dog to make her/him walk!
