Our sitter lost our dog. We're utterly devastated. She then told me she couldn't help our search as she was going to her friend's grandmother's birthday party. Then she went to Berlin for 2 weeks. 4 weeks later and she ignores any contact...

Honestly I’m glad. There are some caregivers that have had their belongings destroyed because people cannot take responsibility for their dogs actions. Rover needs to do better with this “insurance”

Here is a description of Rover's emergency coverage and procedures:

https://support.rover.com/hc/en-us/ar...

You should discuss this directly with Rover Customer Support ([Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]) since this board is mainly used by sitters and some pet parents. Sitters know to contact Rover first in the case of emergencies. So the Customer Support staff is the only place from which you'll receive a definitive answer to your hypothetical question.

I spoke regularly to their "support" people, but they did very little to help. Lots of sympathy over the phone but no accountability. Our lovely Iggy is gone. Lost... and they don't really give a damn... We're broken... He was everything to us and it was the first time we had to hire a sitter...

My hypothetical question????? You lost our dog and I received no help from you or the sitter... I rang the support number. The sitter went on holiday... That's far from hypothetical. How dare you!! I guess we could have taken legal action, but it won't get Iggy back...

To actually have to mention legal action to spark any sort of reaction at the other end of the phone as they promise to send another poster to print out... Sitter turned the tears on... In cold money he would cost 15-2000 pounds to replace now. Emotionally, we lost our little boy.

Simply put, the Rover Guarantee is our commitment to you in the rare instance that something goes wrong during a booking. The Rover

And that is simply not true...

After nearly a year, Rover financed our new dog... It's the very least they could do, but totally unexpected, and we have a new little family member... So thanks!!!

Jonathan W., my Rover sitter lost my dog too. I'd love to get your adice.

This exact thing happened to me unfortunately. Our dog escaped because our sitter left the front door open. We were at the hospital delivering our baby boy. We were unable to find our dog the following day, and she was hit by a car the next night.

http://Rover.com was very sympathetic and apologetic. They refunded the stay, and offered to pay for any bereavement costs we incurred (cremation etc). Our dog was a rescue, and there was no cost to us for the cremation, but I felt it was a thoughtful gesture.

The sitter is also no longer permitted to sit on Rover, which gives me some peace of mind. It's not a situation I really considered before it actually happened, and I had used several sitters from Rover over the course of about 8 months. But if we get another dog, I will be much more picky with who I hire as a dog sitter.

You got lucky. Rover stopped replying to me at all. The Rover sitter we hired lost our dog in May of this year. They not only invalidated my review but the sitter is STILL able to take in dogs on the site. We are still searching for our dog but haven’t had any sightings.

Ellen and Adrienne, my Rover sitter lost my dog. Please send any advice.

The Rover sitter I was doing a test run with on Sat 1/22/23 lost my dog. I've found Rover & the sitter to be filled with empathy and not much else. I spoke to the "Trust and Safety" team on Saturday evening, and emailed them on Sunday when there weren't any of the promised posters up. But haven't heard back from them. My 5lb dog has now spent 2 cold nights lost. I spent most of my weekend dealing with this, but now I have to work. This is a nightmare! I want my dog back!!!

Beth-I’d encourage you to see if you can email the flyer to veterinarians, groomers, rescue groups and any other dog friendly places nearby. Post photo& description under Lost Dog on Pawboost, which pushes to FB users (rover may have done but you can add). Real Dog Lovers will try to help look free
