Having client fill out forms

I was reading Rover.com's Terms of Services and there are a lot of responsibilities that are placed on our interactions with clients.

Has anyone ever printed out forms to have clients sign in order to basically "CYA". I have found some documents from other pet sitting business that I plan on tweaking for my needs, but it does seem somewhat lengthy and cumbersome.

Anyone have similar policies such as this and does it scare off clients?

I do have owners sign a medical waiver, as I would not be able to seek medical care without it, or confirm vaccines over the phone. I also ask for feeding/medication information as well as Veterinarian and a local emergency contact. Often times owners don't or wont fill out the Vet and Healthcare information on Rover no matter how many times you remind them.

Although I have seen many good forms, I keep it pretty light paper wise. However, I recall that Rover Sitter Laura, graciously shared her form in another thread, which you can find through the link below. I have seen that form, thank you. I was more so speaking of liabilities. Like listing things that we as sitters would not be responsible for such as weather damage or god forbid burglaries. And many other situations! I am not insured or bonded as a freelance sitter so I was a bit nervous after reading rovers terms of services and as to what they would back us on.

Always have them complete the rover information pages, and ask for an emergency contact other than the owner. Like the others have said and with just about any service you pay for you the purchaser are responsible for reading the policies and fine print. It is also a good business practice to familiarize yourself with these policies . Being able to answer a clients question on the spot will make you look much more prepared and professional than directing them to a website .

It is up to your client to read the Terms and Conditions. They should also read the Faq's for owners. That being said, it is their responsibility...I wouldn't even mention it unless they ask about Rover policy.

Do not use any forms. Those spaces provided by Rover for an owner to fill out online are good enough. Anything else would be in conflict with Rover policy. The rules Rover has in place cover every legal aspect of a stay. And yes, as a sitter you are covered by liability insurance thru Rover as part of your fee....always book thru Rover...always-- so you are protected (and the owner will be grateful too).

Any questions on those miscellaneous non-Rover forms can be discussed during a Meet and Greet. And always refer a client to customer service if they have policy questions you aren't sure of the answer. Don't have a client sign anything, they already have a contract with you and Rover when they book.

Rover's TOS does nothing to address many potential sittwr-owner issues. Nor does it prohibit sitters from using their own forms. It only says you can't trade $ off-app for a booking initiated on-app, and what limits exist for filing claims on the insurance policy your fee provides.
