Do I get penalized for not responding to a message that is close ended?

For instance if an owner thanks me I thank them then they thank me again in messages it seems rude to respond again since the conversation is over. Will rover penalize me for no response or is that just for before everything has been booked?

No penalty for thank you, no thank you...The latter applies. These links explains the ranking.

The Rover ranking which is based on responses is for new requests and does not include duplicate requests (requests from the same pet parent, with the same dog and dates)
