Why does my dog poop in his crate?

This is a question that we often get from sitters and owners who work with Rover. Help the community out by answering them in our forum!

Sometimes dogs are assumed of doing there business in front of someone they care about. They could be doing that to try to hide the fact they are going. They also normally get in a schedule and use the restroom around the same time each day so it could just be when you are creating them.

How long are you leaving your dog in the crate? Most dogs cant be in there longer than 6 hours without needing a potty break. Try not feeding your pup right before you put him in the crate - if you do make sure he goes out to poo first!

We had problems with our dog also. He used to bark and chew shoes, table etc when we were not at home. We had no time to take our Bud to dog training classes. We asked one friend who works in foster care. He recommended one online dog behavior trainer http://bit.ly/2s3XuQF. It helped us a lot.

it depends on a lot of things the age and how long they have been in their crate. If you have not trained it or they are still a pup they will poop in their crate.

The crate should be small enough that if your dog did poop in his/her crate that they could not get away from it. Sounds mean to let your dog hang out in their own waste, but they don't like it and will most likely not do it again. There are separators you can get and move further back as they grow.
