I have reached out to a few other sitters in my area through searching my zip code for sitters and have met up with a few at the local dog park. 1.its good to scope out you competition right? ;) 2. it is also good to know people in your area that you could mention to a client if you are not available. 3.Its always good to meet new pet lovers!
I would also suggest Meetup.com - they have endless amounts of groups for you to connect with. And if you can't find one - then don't be afraid to create your own! I'm sure loads of people in your area would be happy to meet other animal lovers :)
Maybe try looking on FB or http://meetup.com. I know there is a FB group for http://Rover.com in general. And, some specific areas have FB pages for Rover. com sitters.
