Can I use regular shampoo on my dog?

I use a standard shampoo on my hair, and have been using it on my dog as well. Is this safe for her? Her coat and skin doesn't seem to be reacting to it.

I have always been told by my Vet that human shampoo is not good for dogs. Not good for their skin nor does it get them as clean as a Dog Shampoo does. Go to Pet Smart and ask what is good to bathe your dog with.

I usually use baby shampoo since it is made for sensitive skin and is tear free as well.

I try not to use human shampoo on my dogs. Human shampoo has a lot of fragrances and usually smells like fruit, so some insects are more prone to bother my dogs.

No. Human shampoo is to high in sufides. However, Johnson n johnson baby shampoo is mild enough to use

I always use Dr Bonners liquid Soap .. its pure and rinses out quickly.

As a former professional dog bather, I can tell you that human shampoo is no good for pups, whatever breed. Baby shampoo is totally okay, but you can find really reasonably priced dog shampoos on amazon or at the pet store that won’t mess with their skin or ph levels, and will make them smell good!

When I have need to bathe our Westie (between his groomings), I will use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo. It's gentle enough for their skin and if you should get any in their eyes it won't sting.

Use Monat Dog Wash its pH level is 7.5 and matches your furfriends skin pH! Message me for help @pupscrumpets

I use Melaleuca's Pro Care dog shampoo. ProCare® gently cleans and deodorizes without irritation to keep your pet looking clean & healthy & feeling incredibly soft.ProCare® features:Jojoba oil—Colorless, odorless, non-irritating oil that moisturizes & softens fur while adding shine. It's amazing

In addition to different pH levels, it also likely contains chemicals that are not safe for dogs whether absorbed by fur, skin, or later ingested through licking. Use a dog shampoo.

The link to the grooming blog cited below in a post, even states in the summary: "There are good reasons to use a good pet shampoo on dogs: Shampoos formulated for canine hair are designed to clean well and are often geared toward specific jobs or coat types..."

as a certified professional groomer i do not recommend using human shampoo on dogs it could dry out his skin or cause an allergic reaction. i only use products made for dogs and try to go the more natural route if possible.

The most common reason not to use human shampoo on a dog is that dogs have different pH levels than humans. Purchase a dog shampoo

Dogs have higher pH level than humans, their skin is more alkaline. Dog shampoos are made for their skin and coat.

Hi, But the human shampoo can be harmful for animal's skin. I remember when I was searching essay help in the Internet I stumbled upon the article. In this article vet explained why people should wash their pet with special shampoo.

I myself have never used human shampoo on any of my dogs. From what I have read and been told that human shampoo has a much higher acidic ph than dog shampoo which can effect their skin. It can be drying, irritating, and also have perfumes in them that are no good for your dog. It is best to use a shampoo that is designed especially for dogs... Of course in a pinch when you are out of dog shampoo It would not hurt, but not to use for the long run..

There are many myths surrounding the appropriateness of using regular shampoo on dogs and we definitely do not endorse it. Regular shampoos have a higher acidity that will absolutely ruin your dog’s skin over time. I used to do this to my https://rottweilerpupdog.com/ (Rottweiler) dog and he got his skin ruined.

I do it all the time with my dog but technically it's probably not good. I would say if its necessary then use regular shampoos but make sure its a good one and won't dry out your dogs skin or cause a reaction. If I have to use regular shampoo on my dog I make sure I rinse her GOOD and condition her fur too. I mean if your gonna use the shampoo, mind as well use the conditioner too so your dog isn't itchy and scratching after they dry. Stay away from harsh soaps like dish soap or laundry soap though......

Hi Ive been a professional. Certified Master Groomer for 13 years. I was trained by a Westminster' Dog show Winner. Best in show! What an achievement.
As far as bathing your dog goes, you never want to bath them too often. Over bathing causes a lot of skin problems, and you can matte the coat depending on the breed of dog your bathing, you are also drying out your dog, and stripping awAy their natural oil in their skin/ fur , Which protects them. Use a oatmeL shampoo and conditioner. There are many good choices ..if you have a white dog use a Whitener. They make white Coates SNOW WHITE, Use the shampoo and conditioner. The whitening products will be BLUE, Your dog WILL NOT TURN BLUE!!! LoL.. If your dogs coat is oily add a little Dawn dish liquid to get rid of the oily feel.(great trick). If your dog requires face washing because of tear stains, or stains around their mouths. Use specifically a FACE WASH for dogs.it is specifically made for dogs, proper pH, and they have one for white dogs and for darker Coates too It's the best way to clean your little ones face. You can use Doggy wipes in between baths if needed for an easy little Freshen up, the best thing about using the wipes is its so quick and easy, and you won't believe how beautiful they're going to smell!! I would recommend you check out all the options and pick what's right for you, and facial wipes are also available. When you bathe your dog always make sure to get a good lather, let it sit for 5-19 limits then rinse, rinse and rinse some more?, VERY IMPORTANT (U MUST GET ALL OF THE SHAMPOO OFF) keep rinsing until the water runs clear. Then apply conditioner. Work it in real well, all over. If your dog had long hair. Pay special attention while your doing this to NOT MATTE THEIR COAT. Work conditioner in to the skin. Let sit about 15 min. And again Rinse.
Rinse Rinse!! Towel dry. Wrap towel around dog, and squeeze the fur , start from tail moving up to face. After you towel dry I recommend blow dryer. I use a small blower, it works wonders on my shift tzu! I believe it's important to blow dry your dog after a bath. Its much better (healthier) for them, and it's a nice way to finish off. And then use your favorite spray, whether it's a detangler, or a conditioner, or a scented spray. There are too many choices to pick ,,, ,,,,,,,,🐾🐾♥💞🐾🐕

So, I am a firm believer that when comes to Q&A forums I better make darn sure I know what I am talking about before giving advice on a subject because I would never want my advice to backfire and hurt or mame in this case people or their pets. I feel its my obligation not to put info out there without my expert in depth knowledge or experience because people are seeking real answers. I will not claim to be an expert on this subject and I certainly am not sure if any of the posters are either when it comes to this question or any other questions on this forum for that matter. But what I have found is an article which includes a lot of the science that I believe can help guide you with a detailed answer. Please click on this link http://groomblog.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-ph-of-pet-human-shampoos.html (http://groomblog.blogspot.com/2012/09...) . This is where I read about the science including the variables one must factor in about pH levels in shampoos and levels in humans and canines. Its not necessarily a simple question to answer, but with the info on that link you will be better able to understand why and BUST a lot of those myths that keep getting passed around. All in all, when it comes to your pet's health I would always seek out the advice of a reputable and trusted vet not an online Q&A board where anyone can post an unsubstantiated opinion. Yeah, for me (if you haven't noticed by now) its all about being loyal to the dog! Hope that helps! Good luck! Christina, Dog Gone Happy, Milford, PA

I usually have my dog bathed, groomed, and nail done professionally. I do have canine oatmeal shampoo for emergencies, and my emergency was I ran out of shampoo so I used Gracie's. My hair was really clean, soft and manageable. Wish I could find that shampoo for human hair.
