Why does my dog poop in her crate?

We have a husky/lab mix that’s a little over a year old and she was potty trained and she knows not to go in her crate. The diet hasn’t changed. She’s not left in the crate long but the she’s been pooping and peeing in her crate this whole week and even twice while we’re home. What’s up?!

If you have crate-trained your dog but he keeps defecating in his crate, this could be for a variety of reasons. Your dog could be suffering from separation anxiety, have an underlying medical condition affecting bowel control, or simply not understand the crate is not the proper place to relieve himself. There are steps you can take to keep your dog from defecating in his crate.

Make sure the crate is the right size. Oftentimes, dogs will defecate in their crate if it's too big. If the crate is large enough that your dog can comfortably eliminate in a corner he might choose to go in his crate rather than wait to be let out. Your dog's crate should be just big enough for him to stand up and turn around in and lie down with his legs straight. Anything bigger might make him tempted to use the crate as a bathroom

Feed your dog in his crate. Chances are, your dog would prefer not to defecate in the same space where he's fed. Feeding him in the crate can help. You do not need to close your dog in the crate at meal times, as the stress of being locked in may interfere with his ability to eat. Just set the food inside his crate and leave the door open.

Alter the bedding in the crate. Changing the types of blankets you provide in the crate, or adding extra blankets, can potentially make your dog stop going in his crate.

For a new issue that started (after successful crating), it’s possible the dog could be suffering from separation anxiety or have an underlying medical condition. For separation anxiety, pheromone diffusers such as Adaptil & playing calm music+ toy, gradually increasing time alone might help.

Well, there could be a few reasons why your dog is pooping in her crate. It could be that she's not getting enough opportunities to go outside and do her business, or she might be experiencing some anxiety or stress that's causing her to lose control of her bowels. It's also possible that she simply hasn't been properly trained to hold it in and wait until she's outside. Whatever the reason, it's important to figure it out and address it so that your dog can be comfortable and healthy, and your home can stay clean and odor-free.

We had problems with our dog also. He used to bark and chew shoes, table etc when we were not at home. We had no time to take our Bud to dog training classes. We asked one friend who works in foster care. He recommended one online dog behavior trainer http://bit.ly/2s3XuQF. It helped us a lot.

Generally, dogs do not want to soil where they rest (like in a crate), so most likely the dog is not getting the opportunity to relieve itself timely. I'd suggest that first thing in the AM, within an hour after every meal, and just before bedtime, you give the dog a chance to eliminate. That likely translates to 4 potty breaks a day. If walks are not possible, then some people use a potty pad and lead the dog over to it like they would a spot of grass. After the dog eliminates, give over the top praise as if they just won the lottery,
Another possibility is that the dog had a seizure, in which case all their fluids would come out which they have zero control over, but I'm hoping that this is just a house training/ frequency issue and not the latter.

I am constantly walking her after she eats. And every other hour as well. I'm also not giving her water or food 2 hours before sleep to avoid the mess.. it still doesn't work -_- . She never wants to poop outside idk what else to do. It's her 4th day away from her mom and siblings.

It's a female golden doodle, 8 weeks old. I'm going to try making the crate smaller with the divider.

Hello, did she stop and how are things now. I need help with my new puppy who poops in crate and also barks and whines when we put her in and often poops while having this fit.

Stop putting them in a crate. You would probably have a poop fit as well…
