When should I spay my dog?

What is the best age at which my dog should be spayed? Is there a minimum age or certain signs I should look for?

Good question. The best person to ask is your vet. The short answer is anytime after a couple months of age. Most vets spay starting around 5-6 months, but pediatric spaying between 2-6 months is becoming more common. It's usually recommended to get pups spayed before their first heat in order to prevent some health problems, but spaying at later ages can also still prevent health problems.

She can be spayed any time after eight weeks of age, and preferably before her first heat for the best health benefits. The first heat cycle occurs somewhere around six months of age, depending on the breed. Read more at http://dogtime.com/dog-health/general...
