Can I catch a cold from my dog?

There are several viruses that can cause upper respiratory diseases in cats and dogs. None of these are transmitted to humans but can be very contagious to other dogs or cats. And of course, there are hundreds of viruses that cause colds in humans, but you can't spread them to your pets either.

Dogs don't catch the flu like humans do. They can catch kennel cough which will give them flu like symptons. They will get a stuffed up nose, runny eyes etc. If this happens, antibiotics from the vet will help to clear it up.

Pets are great companions, but it is important to keep them healthy. Make sure their shots are up to date and they are well cared for. You will keep them and your family healthier that way. If you are concerned about a minor virus, such as a cold, being passed between your family and your pet, don’t be. But if you have any fear that your pet may have something more serious that could be passed on to you or your family, contact your vet and your healthcare provider.

Yes. There are some things that are infectious to human. Kennel cough is DEFINITELY one of them.

http://kennelcough.com/is-kennel-coug... Here is a certified vet's answer. I can see by many of these sitter's answers, I should never trust my dog with them. A basic google search gave me a certified answer, but this is also common sense.

Most illnesses like colds are species specific, meaning you cannot give to your dog and your dog cannot give to you - or a cat. However, remember that a lot of times colds in humans are gotten because of a sudden change in temperature or environment, and this is the same for dogs. So both you and your dog could have a cold because of this!

You cannot catch a cold from your dog and your dog cannot get one from you! :)

No, you cannot catch a cold from your dog, but your dog can catch a cold from another dog or cat. There are other contagious viruses that can be transmitted from dog to human, but such cases are rare.
