Why does my dog hump my cat?

To show their rank in the pack and display their dominance.
It may be hormone-related, but it may also be dominance or territory the dog is trying to show.
9/10 when dogs hump they do so as a form of dominance. Essentially, your dog is trying to show your cat that he is the boss around the house and a higher rank. If your dog is intact, a solution to this is to get him neutered. However, some dogs develop behaviors that stick around even after they have been fixed. I recommend working on positive reinforcement with your dog, praising and giving treats when he is not humping your cat/anything else, and deterring him from the behavior when he is, by removing him from the situation, removing your cat from the situation, or stopping him (spray bottle, loud noise, etc)
Melanie's right; it's a dominance thing. Believe it or not, female dogs do it, too, and they can do it to either gender of cat. Spaying and neutering your pets is always smart, but don't necessarily expect it to fix anything, as Melanie said. Just try to watch the two of them when they're together and correct the behavior when you see it.
Humping is a way for them to release sexual tension or when it's that time of the month. Just like they hump pillows or stuffedit animals. Getting them spayed/neutered could help reduce or eliminate that behavior. You could also reinforce commands such as "no" or "stop" when your dog does that.
Woah, there. Displaying dominance is just ONE of MANY reasons dogs hump. Others include stress, previous learned behaviors (they keep doing it because they've learned it feels good), medical problems, compulsive behavior, play or, quite simply, displaying normal sexual behavior.

I think the most common among "altered" dogs (especially puppies) is over excitement. "I'm having so much fun I could just... I don't know... hump something! And I'm a dog so I will and it's so totally normal".
These problems arise very often, but usually for a limited period of time, probably due to hormones' changes.
Because she is a fine little feline. Just kidding. it is a sign of dominance.
