Why does my dog eat a lot of grass?

Does anyone else's dog do this? Whenever we go on a walk my dog LOVES to munch on grass. I feel like this can't be nutritional, but probably isn't something I should worry about? Right?

Dogs eat grass for a variety of reasons and it's completely normal. It could be to aid their digestion, lack of fiber in their diet/nutritional need or I've heard it can be due to intestinal worms. You can try switching to a high-fiber food, have the vet check a stool sample, or you may have a pup that just enjoys the taste and texture of grass.

You are correct that you shouldn't worry... IF there are no other symptoms. If I'm caring for a dog that eats grass it puts me on notice to watch for vomiting. Which in turn makes me careful about what I feed them. Sometimes the next step is actually changing their diet for a while.

They say dogs eat grass if they feel nauseous because it tickles their tummy. My dog seems to eat grass all the time though, so I think they just like it.

Grass-eating doesn't usually lead to throwing up. Although, sometimes it does and this can help them naturally relieve an upset tummy. Other reasons may include improving digestion, treating intestinal worms, or fulfilling some unmet nutritional need, including the need for fiber.

Dogs can eat grass for various reasons. My dog munches on grass when he has not eaten and is hungry and because he seems to genuinely seems to like the taste. Other reasons may be an upset stomach where the dog is using instinct to incite vomiting. But just because your dog eats grass, does not mean he is sick. Look at all the symptoms when assessing the situation. Also be aware that not all plants/grass are safe for dogs to munch on.

For whatever reason, dogs love to munch on grass. Dogs eat grass for the same reason humans eat vegetables, for it's nutritional, natural value. There's also a theory that dogs eat grass as a medicinal remedy to help them vomit when they have an upset stomach or aren't feeling well. There really is no harm in letting your dog eat grass.

Usually dogs will eat grass when their stomach is upset. Watch your dog closely, and take to vet if you see further issues.
