Norms of the pet sitting interview? Tour of the house?

My question is about the norms of the pet sitting interview.

My mom was in contact with a couple (not found on Rover because Rover doesn't have sitters in her area) who were going to sit her two dogs at their house for a weekend. She took her dogs for a free trial run day to see if they'd get all get along. My mom was not invited into the house to see the setup at all and wasn't even allowed to reach the front door (was met at the foot of the driveway). Is this normal? If I were letting my dog stay with someone I didn't know, I'd want to see their setup. The woman didn't try to pet either of my mom's dogs and wouldn't answer her question about the tarp she could see in the backyard (suspected kennels were underneath, which would get mighty cold at night).

I've never taken mine to a sitter but am considering it in the future. Is any of that normal? Figured this community would have more insight than my knee jerk reaction that this isn't a good setup.

Thank you!!

This doesn't sound normal to me. The sitter should have been happy to show your mom around and make sure she is comfortable with the set up to be sure that it is a good fit. It also concerns me that the woman didn't try to pet the dogs. Seems like she's hiding something and might be neglectful
