Is there a percent taken out of what the client pays/monthly or annual fees that are paid for using Rover?

Im new to Rover, and I am not sure how the pay works. I know that when the client pays on here, does it get direct deposited into my bank? Are there percentages/monthly/anual fees for using Rover? Does this count for taxes? Will I get like a W2 for tax purposes?

Thank you!! Woof

A couple of clarifications to Hillary's response. Once the money is at Paypal, you can transfer it to your bank account very easily, although it is not immediate (takes a few days). Just be sure to go through the process at Paypal to verify your account. It is easy and totally safe.

Since we're not employees of Rover, we aren't entitled to W-9s. Everyone operates as an independent contractor. Income is reportable but you'll have to keep track of it yourself. Rover may get involved if you get paid by check; however, they let Paypal set its own rules when the payment comes through them, in which case the $20K minimum kicks in. Keep track of not only your net payments from either sources but also any expenses you incur for this job. Those can include doggie treats and bedding to business cards as well as gas, if you are a traveling sitter. Do a search here under tax or deductible expenses and you'll find many great answers and helpful hints.

Great answers! And just so you'll know, you don't get paid until 48 hours after the stay has ended, whichever payment method you choose. The client pays up front, then Rover pays you after the stay is over, just in case there are any problems or changes.

Look up Schedule C at irs.gov. Because we are independent contractors, that is the form to use for reporting your Rover earnings. There are lots of deductions you can take against your earnings. Be aware that you will be charged self-employment taxes to cover federal withholding and Medicare, etc. Regular employees get this money taken out of their paychecks, we don't.

Welcome! For your payment, you can choose to receive a check (though there is a fee) or have the money deposited into a PayPal account (this will occur 2 days following a completed stay). Rover will take 20% of your earnings, but there is not a membership fee or anything. You will have to report your earnings when tax time rolls around again but you will not receive a tax form unless you earn more than $20k, so you will have to file them yourself.
