traveling vs in home sitting

What percentage of bookings are traveling vs home sitting? So far I haven't received any requests for traveling sitting, which I've priced lower than my in home stays, which I found odd.

Personally, I prefer if a sitter travel to my home, but maybe that isn't common?

When I began with Rover I also selected to do travel sitting. Most of my business is hosting in my own home and it's growing. I have had very few requests for in home pet sitting. I live in the city. Most requests I get are up to 25 miles away out in the country. Most of these requests want an overnight sitter which I am not available to do. They generally have several big animals as well as dogs. Therefore I requested my travel sitting profile be deleted by Admin. It's not feasible in my situation.

Like Amber said, I definitely think there is a greater demand for in-home sitters. I started out offering only travel-sitting and dog walking. I live in a rural area so getting clients was already difficult and they only interest I had was from pet-owners who assumed I did sitting in my own home. After adding in-home sitting to my profile the interest sky-rocketed and I started getting clients. Personally, I think its more ideal for the pet owner to have a sitter come to their home but for some reason others don't see it that way.

Hi Daniela,

I started out traveling sitting, and the percentage of dog owners who want a sitter to come to their home is less than those who want to bring their dog to the sitters home. For almost every traveling stay I've done, there has been a specific reason why they wanted me to come:

  • Their dog was old and they wanted it to be comfortable at home
  • Their dog didn't like men, or new people so a traveling sitter was a necessity
  • Their two rescue Greyhounds needed to stick with their routine or they got overly stressed

Hopefully this helps. You will see more requests come in around holidays, and I'd assume since spring break is coming up that you may see business pick up. Keep in mind that since a dog owner is bringing a stranger into their home, people may be more nervous about this service than dropping their dog off. Meet and greets may be longer, and they may have a lot more questions for you before booking since they don't know you.

If you haven't done the background check yet, I'd suggest you do so. That's a huge bonus for Traveling sitters.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking that was the case but wasn't sure good to hear it reaffirmed! :)
