A question for Traveling Sitters.

What do you do when it comes to what hours you're willing to work?

Comments

Hi Marquia. Could you include a few more details? We'd love to help out! I think you might be asking about how many hours you are expected to watch the dogs when you work as a traveling sitter, but I'm not positive. In general, this is something you arrange on a client by client basis.

My traveling sit style is not overnight. I will tell owners up front that I can walk their dog multiple times a day if they leave a key, but I generally do not stay overnight. I consider myself an overnight sitter, because if I were to charge per walk, the prices would skyrocket to compensate for gas. This method allows me to charge per night/day and the dog still gets walked fed and cuddled during the day This allows me to travel sit 2 clients at a time which is the number I am comfortable doing, while also tending to my own dogs. If the dog has sever SA, I will recommend the owner to a sitter that can stay with the dog 24/7.

When I travel sit, I usually make sure its okay for me to leave for short (30mim-hr) periods incase I need to run home to grab food or something. Most clients don't expect me to stay overnight, but If they request it then I do. Some just want me to do 2-3 visits/day but I still charge my nightly rate because its cheeper for them that way.

Basically it changes depending on the client, but I try to stay consistent with my rates so I don't charge extra for an overnight stay.

I generally go out only for groceries maybe dinner, but keep in mind people want you to not leave the dog for any extended periods of time. But I think going out for an hour here and there is fine.
