Huskies are one of the most recognisable dog breeds. They’re a beautiful, active dog with boundless energy and the most expressive blue eyes (okay, and brown!). Though bred to work as sled dogs in the far north, huskies are now found everywhere.
If you’ve got a new Siberian husky in your life, we’ve rounded up the top husky names to inspire you. And if you’re already a husky parent, check to see if your dog’s name made the list! These are the most popular husky names of the year from our enormous Rover database of dog names.

More Great Husky Name Ideas
While less common, all of these names popped up in our research, and we think they’d sound great on a husky. Oh, and while we divided these into gender categories, many are gender-neutral. There’s no reason a female husky can’t be named Glacier, say, or a male husky called a great name like Rain.
Female Husky Names
- Aurora (Rory)
- Rain (Rainy)
- Sakari (Inuit for sweet)
Male Husky Names
- Chinook (a breeze and a jargon)
- Huckleberry (Huck)
- Kavik (Inuit for wolverine)
- Nanuk (the Inuit word for polar bear)
- Oso (bear in Spanish)
Many husky names are inspired by Alaska and Russia, the natural world, and cold climates. Who can resist snow and ice as inspiration, after all? (Even though the Siberian husky isn’t an entirely white dog like the Samoyed).
Choosing the Perfect Husky Name
Husky Name Advice
Great husky names can come from many different sources of inspiration, such as your favourite foods, books, celebrities, your heritage, or dog breed history. Sure, your husky puppy might sport a snow-inspired name like Glacier, but you can also choose Waffles or Sassy purely because those names make you happy.
Another consideration when choosing your husky’s name? Dog training. This is of particular importance for puppies. When you’re teaching your new dog to respond to commands like sit, stay, or come, you’ll want to be sure their name isn’t a source of confusion. In other words, avoid puppy names that sound like a common dog training cue, such as “Bit,” which could easily be misheard as “sit.”
Of course, what matters most is that the dog name you choose rolls off your tongue.
