Located near Macdonald in downtown Winnipeg
This is the perfect route for a dog parent who wants to treat their pet to a long walk through the forest. The route is located near Macdonald and takes you along the river in downtown Winnipeg. When you live in the city, there’s nothing nicer than escaping the hustle and bustle and breathing in some fresh air next to the river.
The Red River Walk is set amongst downtown Winnipeg and takes you through some gorgeous forested trails that offer 12km of walking for you and your dog. Remember to take a loose leash, as there are times that your dog will be free to roam and other times when they’ll need to be close to you. The inclines can be slippery in colder weather, so take care on the slopes!
Located north west of Winnipeg
Your pet will love this slightly shorter 4km hike that is perfect for any skill level and is nestled on the Assiniboine river in the Assiniboine Park. If you have kids who you need to get out of the house on a sunny day, this shorter route is ideal as there’s loads to do to keep them entertained. Along the trail you’ll discover a jungle gym, a miniature train and an animal zoo to keep the kids entertained.
April – November are the best times to take this route, so plan ahead for the ideal time to take your dog on this walk. It’s heavily trafficked at peak times, so take a look at one of our favourite leashes to keep your dog from running riot with other pet pals that they might find along the way.
Located north east of Winnipeg
If you want to escape the city and enjoy a beautiful lakeside hike, then this is the perfect route to enjoy with your dog. The trail is 5.8km, and is located on the Kingfisher Lake in St Andrews. If you’re into fitness then this can be an ideal route with beautiful scenic views and lots of fresh air.
The path is fully paved and takes you all the way around the lake – making it a great place to enjoy a run or jog with your dog. Plus, with plenty of scenic stops along the way, you’ll be able to stop for a breather at any time.
Located near Cartier
The Wild Grape and Elm Trail is a lovely 6km walk that’s relatively easy and suited to a family day out. Sadly, it’s not dog friendly, so you’ll need to find other arrangements for your pup if you plan to take on this hike. The trail offers a lovely green space that was established in 2000, in order to enhance green areas between the Red and Seine Rivers. It’s a network of green spaces that come together to include trails, ponds and wildlife that will help you connect to nature and relax.
