commented answer | Dog destroyed bedspread--how to handle ?? Hi Karen, Thanks for your response. You are right: I need to tell them before they get home. I was worried that if I told them now it would ruin their vacation, but there's nothing I can do about that, unfortunately. You give good advice! Thanks. |
asked a question | Dog destroyed bedspread--how to handle ?? I'm doing a sleep over pet sit in the client's home for 2 dogs. They slept in the bed with me the first night just fine. The second night, last night while I was sleeping one of the dogs chewed a giant hole in the client's beautiful bedspread. How would you handle this situation? The instructions were to crate the dog when I left the house. There were no instructions about bedtime other than "whatever you're comfortable with in letting the dogs sleep with you on the bed". |

commented answer | pricing per visit or per night Thanks, Deb A.. I'd really like to be able to charge one fee for a complete over night stay and a different fee for just coming by and feeding the dog, cleaning up and playtime. I would typically charge more for overnight. So I guess we can list only 2 different charges: the overnight fee and the walking fee, is that right? Thanks for your time! |
answered a question | Dog I am taking care of is crying for their owner and growls at me when I approach? Hopefully she's food-driven! France M. and Katie C. have got it: entice her with treats. What I've done in the past in this very same situation is to sit on the floor (I had the tv on, so i could "ignore" him). I would break off a very tiny piece of treat and throw it about 6 feet away from me, sorta kinda in his direction. As soon as he figured out I had good things to eat he was paying attention to me. Slowly over the course of about 45 minutes I was tossing the treats a little closer to me, a little closer.....After an hour I was able to pet him. We are now very good buddies! Best of luck to you! |

answered a question | I'm confused about what to do if an animal I am sitting is injured or becomes sick in my care. Don't I get owner vet information at time of meet and take to owners vet? Amber G. gave spot-on adice! You WILL have to have a written consent form signed by your client before their vet will treat the animal. So, what I do on my initial meet-n-greet with a client is ask these things: 1) who is your vet? Before you accept the job make sure you know the address and phone number of the vet hospital. I always print out Google directions to their vet and have it handy. If some emergency pops up i do NOT want to waste time trying to find the vet. I have all the information ahead of time! 2) find a release form and have the client sign it. That way when you get to the vet you can hand it over so that they'll administer treatment. 3) I have a list of the three emergency/24 hour hospitals in town and know how to get to each one. I know which one is closest to my client. Ask your client at time of signing if, in case of emergency and the normal vet is closed, do they want you to take their pet to an emergency hospital (or, for instance, do they want you to call them first). Emergency visits are considerably more expensive, so have a plan AHEAD of time! |
asked a question | pricing per visit or per night I'm setting up my profile. What I want is to set a price for per visit at the client's home at $25, and then I want a higher price for an overnight stay. I'm not seeing an option to enter two different prices. So for now my profile is showing "from $25 per night"..... How am I able to put in two prices? Thanks !!!! |
