answered a question | Is it ok that I turned down a client because it was a pit bull and I have a 7 year old daughter? We all have preferences on our profiles for a reason (I agree with previous poster, you may want to think of a standard reasoning). I prefer to sit for small or medium sized dogs due to the size of my apartment and having no yard. Plus, I'm not very powerful/confident in walking large dogs that aren't properly leash trained. I also prefer to watch fixed male dogs because I do not like the marking tendencies among other behavior stuffs. In a pinch, I have def. made exceptions for clients! We're all entitled to our preferences as independent contractors, but have to be mindful to how we approach our clients. |
commented answer | my dog just went into heat, and I have a client booked with an intact male. Advice? Rover support will always help get a replacement sitter! I had to call once to cancel for a funeral out of state and they arranged someone for my client no problem. |
answered a question | Is there a reason my stay requests are becoming fewer and far between? Make sure your calendar is up-to-date and put your link on Craigslist :) The holidays are coming up, I'm sure you'll be hit up soon! Maybe lower your rate a buck or two if you have a lot of sitters in your area for a short time. Good luck! |
answered a question | What is the appropriate duration for dog boarding service? Woah, I've never considered it and have been using Rover for a decent amount of time. Perhaps I'm too lenient, haha. When boarding, I truly only charge for evenings. If a client drops the dog off at 9am day 1, and doesn't pick up until 10pm day 2 (which has happened), I have only received my $24 overnight rate. But, have felt burnt out and overrun. Hm, something to consider. |
