asked a question New client requesting use of home/cell phone numbers. Sketchy or legit?

A new client (with little to no info listed on his profile) insisted I call him directly without much information, other than the requested sitting time period. When I wrote back on Rover discussing possible conflicts on timing and my preference for this communication venue, he suggested I text him. Which I was doing, but through Rover, not my own number. When I explained that Rover gave me and him a particular number to use, he simply said "never mind". I'm wondering: is the Rover number particularly difficult to use for clients? Perhaps the guy was being sketchy? I do exchange direct numbers with clients during a stay for emergencies, but never with someone I do not know at all. Thoughts?
