answered a question | I need help choosing the right dog breed for our family ? We just adopted an English Bulldog and he’s seriously the best puppy ever. He’s low (lower, he’s still a puppy) energy, loves everyone he meets, is great with kids although he still needs guidance because he’s a puppy and puppies play by nipping. Compared to our last dog (boxer heeler mix) he’s an absolute breeze. If I had to recommend an easy breed...English Bulldog. That being said I’ve stayed home with him for 2 months now. We do training sessions multiple times a day. I take him potty what seems like 200 times a day (probably 20). He’s on leash by my side most of the day, so he can learn the rules of the house. Occasionally in a crate but never more for 2 hours. It’s a TON of work. The progress and bonding is so worth it but it’s very time consuming. I would be really worried about bad habits learned at daycare and not bonding with the puppy. You can’t expect someone with multiple dogs to be able to train your puppy, especially in the manner you want. And they would most likely be confused going back and forth constantly. Puppies do need naps during the day too and a high energy environment all day would be overestimating, I know my boy won’t go to sleep if ANYTHING remotely exciting is going on. Maybe look for a Bulldog rescue in your state? An adult bulldog would probably be a great fit, without all the annoying puppy behavior and time commitment. |
