answered a question | Is it fair to charge a cleaning fee if the owner did not notify me of their dogs incontinence? I would talk to Rover and see if the Rover guarantee will help with this cost. I thought and I might have mistaken, but that Rover guarantee will help In some instances over 250.00 and you would have to file a claim...not sure if this would cover your carpet or not but worth calling Rover directly and explain and see. |
commented answer | Is the dog I do daycare for becoming possessive of my house or me? I have one dog that is very territorial and also of me. I have to have strong voice with her. Sometime, I have to separate her in another room for a while. She does not bark or try to scratch out, so I figure she just needs time away from the other animals. Then calms down enough to be with the pack |
commented answer | Is there any way to have set two different locations up? possibly make 2 profiles with each address and calendars set up...not sure if Rover will allow this but maybe check into it. |
commented question | I had to cancel a house sitting in the middle of the stay because the dog was starting to act really aggressive towards me. Will I get paid for the two days I did complete or will the cancelation cancel my entire payment as well? In that situation I would call Rover right away and ask them their advice on how to handle it. Then call their emergency contact. Hope it all worked out for you. Would like to hear how it was handled? just for future reference. |
answered a question | How do I add rates for late pick ups to my profile? Communicate your rates ,and pick up drop off at the meet and greet. Remind them of your cancellation or late fees at this time. I do that and so far no major issues to deal with. I always ask for the drop off and pick up times. I text a "hope you had a great vacation text, Fluffy is doing great..." and ask if they are going to be home around the suggested time etc...then you have a heads up on what is happening, and can plan for it the morning of pick up. |
commented answer | What is the best approach to correcting a terrier who insists on "protecting me" from my husband? I agree do not allow the dog between you and your husband, if he nips I would tap him on the nose and say no...sometimes depending on the behavior treats from your husband when the dog behaves will help him have a positive reaction with your husband as well. |
commented question | What legal action can one take against owner when their dog with history of attacking kills another dog? call the humane society and turn in the attack with them, then call a lawyer or file a civil suit against the neighbor, hopefully her dog was on her property or leashed at the time of the attack. She will need to prove that she had control of her dog as well. And keep all vet bills for court. |
answered a question | How do I know if a dog is deaf? My in laws have a puppy they just found out was deaf. My mother in law clanged to pots together loudly behind the puppy to see if the puppy would react, the puppy did not react in anyway. So she took him to the vet and yep he is a deaf dog. |
commented answer | My 2 year old Boxer still pees in his kennel what do I do? maybe have a vet check him out. My sister in laws dog had urinary issues from time her dog was a pup. |
answered a question | Does housesitting include overnight stays? I have a flexible schedule, so I give my clients the choice of boarding at my home, or sitting at their house. So far all clients are ok with just staying at their home in the evening to morning, and then bringing dog back to my house for the day. I charge one fee. If they have a loner dog, then I will stay at their house. I charge extra for walks, pick up /drop off etc. I have them decide, and know upfront to book extra services. I keep my main fee down so I am competitive in my area ,and if they want extras, the client can decide what those are. The most important is to inform and communicate up front what your offering, and know what they are expecting ,and book from that. I have had one person want me to sit at their house 10-4 every day,and include walks and hiking, and take the dog back to my house etc...but in reality, it became to much, and was not feasible.I told them that they were actually wanting multiple services, and let them know my services and prices. Make sure what you agree to is feasible ,and doable for you, and your company, or you will have unhappy clients. |
commented answer | How do i bring in customers? I put my cards at vet offices, groomers, get to know these people in your community, don't be afraid to walk in and introduce yourself, go to dog parks. I go to the RV camps as well. I find the more people you encounter the better the bookings. Hiking is a great way to meet peeps with animals too. |
commented answer | Hello, if someone is asking for 16 days of dog boarding in my home wouldn't I charge them my day rate and my night rate? Or would the dog boarding (overnight) also cover a day rate? start time and pick up time is important to address with the client. What can a person actually afford to pay for and go on vacation? If you start adding to your prices listed, then people will not be able to afford it. Have add on services listed as well. pick/drop price. addt'l walks let them decide |
commented answer | How do I tell clients I will be on vacation? Let them know right away and also update your calendar. The more time they have the easier for them to find a replacement for the time your are gone. Congrats |

commented question | Did raising your rates hurt your bookings? I keep a ledger of clients , I like the phone Idea I will have to start trying that as well. |
commented question | when dog boarding, does anyone use a cutoff/pick up time for the animal? sorry I meant charging an extra day...not dog |
asked a question | when dog boarding, does anyone use a cutoff/pick up time for the animal? I was just wondering if their is a policy I missed or make a policy on a pick up time before charging an extra dog. I have had one customer leave the dog until late the next day. Just looking to see what others do or how to make a policy? |
