asked a question What happens if my dog dies while in care of Rover sitter?

My dog is 14 and we feel he is too old for boarding. We also have 10 yr old and 1 & 1/2 yr old dogs. The 2 older dogs are VERY attached to me. They have stayed home with my sons the past couple times we went on vacation and were a bit anxious when I wasn't home after a couple days.

I'm concerned (more for the sitter) that the older dog may die or even the middle dog. This has happened to us in the past with a much younger dog and it was very sudden and unexpected. The emergency vet said that some dogs hold on until their owner leaves and then they just "let go". We were using a neighborhood family at the time and it was quite traumatic for them.

I am prepared for this event and have information ready but I was wondering how Rover handles such situations.

commented answer How does house sitting work?

These are all great answers. As the pet owner, I wish I'd seen them before I got set up. I think the idea of meeting off-site is also good for us since the dogs can be more protective in their own territory or barky/distracting. And it's a nice safety measure for the owner too.
