answered a question Is it safe to do a spend the night meet and greet at the clients home?

No Way...... This job depends so much on common sense, go with the gut, use your head, does it feel right?

Do Not put yourself in Harms way, I have already had too , way TOO many whackadoodles contacting me with "red Flag" requests... Follow your heart, follow your instincts, If your have doubts.... do WITH-OUT! Politely say, let me check my calendar, and follow up after with," I am unavailable at that time, I am sorry"....... Done!

Good Luck!

answered a question What to do when a dog won't sleep?

Lots of Exercise and continuous Kong.

The dog is nervous.....

answered a question Do you tip dog sitters?

I have always gotten tips in the past. It is definitely a way of retaining your services, and having preferred clients! It also is your indication that you have gone above and beyond in your duties! :) s

answered a question My dog won't go potty outside. Only on wee pads.

I say move the pee pad(s) outside, and cut them to make it smaller and smaller until it disappears..... Remember they have their favorite spot to pee and poo outside as well. Eventually Parker (LOVE THE NAME!!! I USED TO HAVE A PARKER) will choose to run to his spot! good Luck!

answered a question As a sitter, Can I choose to only sit at the owners home?

Absolutely!

Think about it, so many pets are most comfortable in there own homes.

They are not exposed to 'unknown elements" (other dogs, animals , aggression, possible insecure surroundings, other hidden dangers)

Peace of mind for the pets and owners knowing they are in there surrounds, and that you ....being the awesome pet /house sitter that you are will provide the best possible care for your clients. Leaving the house "BETTER" than when you found it and following owners instructions to a T. Things do go wrong all the time in a home ( I used to house sit large luxury properties in CT) Hurricanes, Nor-Easters, Trees down, Road Closures, Major Snowfall, snowed in, Power outages, Hurricane Irene, no power for 11 days, I have seen it all while caring for pets in the owners homes. I was able to handle everything calmly and when the clients/owners returned all was back to normal and seamless. Again, all about peace of mind! Oh and if you have a pet sitter sign on your car, PLEASE REMOVE IT if sitting in others Homes..... :) s

answered a question Weight/Size preferences?

Unfortunately you got stuck. The ONLY way to avoid is to schedule the meet and greet. I worked for a doggy daycare/boarding in the near past, and the owner would supposedly screen all dogs, This did not always happen and we got 'stuck' many times, your word is your word.... Now that I am on my own I will not sit a dog/cat/ others until I have seen the home, met the clients and of course have met the pets. For the sake of safety in everyones' case this in best! Good Luck, Hope it worked out! :) s
