answered a question Does anyone have any advice on boarding dogs when you don't feel it is safe to leave them alone?

I have been boarding for the summer also. I try to take dogs that get along with the dog I watch everyday. So kinda like mine but goes home at night. And I never leave a dog I am boarding alone not even for a minute. The reason being is because I am being paid to watch them. I had a dog that was starting to chew on my carpet when I got him after to go to sleep. So I had to find something else for him to chew. Also when they play sometimes they can play rough and I have to intervene. I trust the dog I watch everyday because I know what she going to do. But some dogs just have weird tendency like eating rocks or trash. I don't want to have to call the owner for that.

answered a question How do I get a tick off my dog?

Another way to get ticks that doesn't hurt the dog is dish soap. It makes the head of tick come out and falls right off. Then grab a napkin pick it up. No scabs like you get from pulling off with tweezers.

commented answer What is Rovers billing policy with night stays?

I had an owner tell me as he was walking to his car after dropping off his dog say "oh by the way our flight got changed so we won't be able to pick him up til 11 pm. Is this okay?" His children were also in the car waiting for their Dad to return. I said "okay." And I learned a valuable lesson!!

answered a question Any tips on separation anxiety?

I have watched a couple of dogs with anxiety. The things i have done are to use calm/soothing voice and demeanor. Exercise (via playing or training) and walks are your best friend if the dog is able to. This helps the dog keep their mind off the separation. There are YouTube videos of soothing dog mediations that may also be helpful at times. Having a ticking clock and oil of lavender scents around can be helpful. Blocking out sounds via air-conditioning and closing curtains may make them feel safer. Any chew toy or bone is very helpful for chewers. And make sure the owner brings something from home that has their scent.
