Clean the mess as well as you can and invest creating a potty routine. If you catch the dog in the act, instead of punishing him or her, just ignore the mess, and redirect them by taking them directly outside with some cookies in hand. Once he or she has gone potty, reward the behavior immediately after. If the marking is in the middle of the night pick up the water bowl an hour before bed and let them potty one more time before bedtime.
