marked best answer Is the Rover Protection Worth the cost?

I just signed up for the Rover 'Ask A vet service" but am realizing that really it only serves to answer up to 5 questions. Has this service really helped someone while dog sitting? Has it given you specialized information that Google couldn't provide? I am wondering if the $49 price tag is worth it.

Isabella, thank you for your comments! Would you mind emailing me the contract you created? I DEFINITELY want to implement this ASAP. Genius. My email is Eliz6000@gmail.com

commented answer why should i keep using rover after i use it for the first time when i have already the sitter's info?

"Rover not only protects it's customers, but their hosts as well."- just one comment about this. Unfortunately, as hosts our personal belongings are not protected. I sat a very destructive dog who managed to do about $200 in damage over a 4 night period (which I was never away from for more than 20 minutes at a time). Learned that us sitters are only protected if we are 'travel sitting' in the clients home. Essentially, Rover protects the client's personal belongings from their dog but can not cover your personal belongings from THEIR dog. Just wanted to add this since I learned this the hard way. I will be very happy if this changes, but as for now, this is the policy.

asked a question How to deal with damage to your home while sitting a dog?

I am sitting a dog right now who has destroyed 2 of my dog beds. I asked the owner to bring his bed but she showed up without it. He destroyed a $40 dog bed on his first night and a cheaper bed last night. It is hard to believe that Rover will only cover damages when I am traveling sitting rather than in my home. I have this dog for 7 more days and am out of beds! ---update--- After sleepless nights and more destroyed property I called Rover to have the dog re-homed. The owner promised that she would cover some of my losses however (no big surprise) have not heard from her. Read the comments on this thread, take Isabella's advice, have owners sign a 'contract' when they drop of their dog(s).

I agree. I tried to get a refund before the negative balance was paid and I hadn't been sent the Rover tag, but it was too late. So I'll keep it for a year and cancel. Odd that they only send you one tag, I often sit more than one dog at a time. They make you buy additional tags. I won't be doing that either.
