commented answer What does the background check include/look for?

Your understand is wrong. They only check for address, phone and possibly social security number verification. Upon finding items missing after a stay, I did a simple google search on the sitter and found things I wished I had known prior to booking. I tried to make it known on the cite, but "Support and Trust" teams rejected my comments. They don't wan't anything bad said, only good,, be careful.

commented answer Do you tip dog sitters?

Here's a news flash. If you do any job, you are SUPPOSED to be trustworthy and professional. Its a job! So, set your rates at a level that is not offensive to your expectations of what you will receive, and if they are too high, you will know soon enough. Next, do your job, do it well, there's nothing wrong with asking for the client to write a good review. And when the wonderful reviews start piling up, you can raise your rates accordingly and still the clients will come knocking down the door....that's how my sitter makes good money. I am not a sitter - I am a pet owner, and I tip my sitter very nicely, and also add little fees for things like taking in my mail and running the vacuum before she leaves. She EARNS it - big time. Maybe its a regional thing... (more)

answered a question Dog sitting is no different then any other services based profession such as a hair stylist or waiter. Why are soo many sitters selling themselves short by not expecting a tip?

Stephen, I think counting on tips is somewhat like counting on winning when you buy a scratch off lottery ticket. Sure, it happens, and when it does it's nice, but if you're counting on it, be prepared for disappointment. And the idea of asking for it is plain out rude. Do your job, do it well, get good reviews and then raise your rates accordingly when the clients come knocking down the door....that's how you make good money. I am not a sitter - I am a pet owner, and I tip my sitter very nicely, and also add little fees for things like taking in my mail and running the vacuum before she leaves. Maybe its a regional thing, but nobody is "entitled" to a tip....its a gift.
