asked a question | How often should I brush my dog's teeth? My dog hates having his teeth brushed. The vet says his teeth look fine, but I wouldn't want my dog's teeth in my mouth! What signs can I look for that I should be brushing my dog's teeth more often? |
asked a question | Is it OK to trim dewclaws? There's a little nubby toenail up my dog's let a little bit. Can I clip it off the same way I clip off the rest of his nails? |
asked a question | Is it OK to bathe with my dog? My dog will sometimes just jump right into the shower with me. I don't mind -- two birds, one stone & all that. But is there any risk of disease communication that might happen when we're both in the shower that I might not be considering? |
asked a question | How hot is too hot for my dog? My dog just loves the heating pad. He'd sit on it all day if I left it on for him! I keep my house at a warm 68-70 degrees (f), but even then he'll still curl up on the heating pad. Is it OK for my dog to spend a lot of time on the heating pad? |
asked a question | How to cut to the quick on dark-nailed dogs? My dog has dark nails, which makes it difficult to clip his nails just to the quick. What tricks do you do to keep your dark-nailed dog's nails trim? |
asked a question | How do you pick the right brush for your dog? I've found that my dog hates any metal-bristled brush, but quite enjoys a boar-bristle brush. Is there anything I should keep in mind when it comes to grooming dog hair that might compel me to choose a specific kind of brush? |
asked a question | How do you reject strangers who want to handle your dog? Often times I'll be walking my dog and random strangers will expect to be able to handle my dog. Most of the time, they are respectful and ask "can I pet your dog?" Then there are other times when a stranger moves before asking. What do you do to keep your dog safe from strangers you don't trust to handle them while outside your home? |
asked a question | How much choking is too much choking? Sometimes my dog will get real excited and start choking. Most of the time it's just a hard cough, but occasionally he'll keep choking for a moment and seem to get anxious. What are the things one should do when their dog exhibits choking? |
asked a question | How do I feed dogs on different schedules or with different habits? Say I have two dogs, one of them likes to graze their food. The other likes to inhale it. How do I prevent an inhaling dog from eating the grazing dog's food while still letting the grazing dog graze their food safely? |
asked a question | How do you handle a 3rd party pickup? Say I have a client that wants to drop off the pet and have another friend pick up the pet at the end of the stay. How do I safely and effectively facilitate this without exposing my personal phone number or email address? What sort of things can I say to avoid disclosing these sorts of personal information? |

commented answer | Dog not used to go potty on-leash ? OP can also consider screening these kinds of pets out during meet & greets. |
answered a question | How can I get my dog to stop jumping? There are two ways that I used to keep my puppy (mini schnauzer) from jumping. The first thing I did was start saying "ow!" when I get jumped on. This reaction teaches my puppy that he's hurting me, and will often elicit apology hugs & kisses from him. The second thing I did was start teaching my puppy a trick "stand up". Now that he knows he gets treats for a calm stand-up, he does't want to jump at all! |
