answered a question What can I do when a dog pees all over my house after owner said they were house broke?

Right now I have a pair of dogs here and they are older. The male has been marking periodically all over the house. He is neutered. I believe its just because they are not use to being outside of there home. They are also usually outdoor dogs during the day. However, I also have noticed the urine is on vertical objects, marking. He is neutered. So nothing I can really do except try to manage the situation and keep him off of carpet when I am not able to watch him. Also of course making sure to clean the areas with a high quality enzyme cleaner is best like natures miracle.

answered a question do the dogs have to be recently vaccinated before they can be watched?

If you do not vaccinate your dog you are putting your dog at risk every time it steps outside, if it is a young puppy. This being said you also have no way to figure out where your dog contracted a disease like Parvo etc.

I personally do not adhere to a strict immunization rule if they are not puppies and have had many rounds of shots. Rabies. I do however adhere to a strict Spay/Neuter rule unless they are not of age to be fixed yet.

answered a question Best tips for sitting barkers?

First it would need to be determined if the dog has True Separation Anxiety vs Annoying Barking out of bad habit or being rewarded for barking. Several things come to mind. Learning about Dog Behavior, True Major cases of Separation anxiety have signs that are similar, Barking when owner leaves or left alone. Sometimes being with another dog can help. Signs include trying to get through doors or barriers, Breaking out of crates to the point of losing nails. The perimeter of the home or room Ex: Doors, Trim, Windows are damaged from trying to escape..NOT BE LEFT ALONE. Learning as much as you can about each dogs and paying close attention if they are anxious etc. - I've used Victoria Stillwells CD's calming and pair it with a stuffed Kong.
If the dog is just a barker and learned to be rewarded for barking then I do some quick training techniques. Turning your back to them, when they stop turn around and praise. Calming Signals. Also if you are a clicker trainer you can "click to calm". This is used in the shelters so the shelter dogs will not stay in a barking frenzy. So in that case, walking up to a cage/crate and if the dog is barking turn around or step back, The second it stops barking then it is rewarded. IT works quickly. We all learn to do what works for us. :) Hope that made sense.

commented answer Best tips for sitting barkers?

Funny you say that, my next doors neighbor barks AT 5 pm every single time he hasn't been fed and will continue until they get home and feed him. Yes he is an outdoor dog. So I have partnered with them to leave me some food and they can always text me if they will be out late and I feed. SOLVED.

commented answer Owner wants me to watch the dogs fro 2 days but booked it as 1 overnight stay for only 1 day rate. How do I fix?

I am having a little issue with this as well. I want to charge per day not per night.

commented question Rat Terriers

Rat terriers will shed but not to the extend of some other breeds. You can help this by brushing a few times a week, and even using the furminator. I have been around many and if they are highly socialized as puppies to people, places, animals, and even noises things then they are really awesome dogs.

commented question Why does my dog now eat his poop after we changed dog food?

I would check the dogfood you have switched to. http://Dogfoodadvisor.com is a great resource, however there are many others. If a dog is not getting the proper nutrients or digesting the food they can do this. Also some can make this into a life long habit. The term is Coprophagia . In the mean time management is key: Scooping poop.

commented question Why does my dog eat my socks?

Sock eating is a very dangerous potential deadly bad habit. The first issue is management, keeping all socks up. There is a great book called "MINE" that can lead you through training steps to stop this problem. Also positive reinforcement training, Sit, bring, give, hold, drop it, find it are all great to help

commented question How can I get my dog to stop jumping?

WIth training, the thing is to think of what you do want vs what you don't want. So for example sit: Do not give any attention for a jumping dog, you can slide to the other side, quick turn your side where they slip off. Ask for a sit, praise the sit. Praise and Reinforce what you want, ignore the negative.

commented question Which dog breeds are best suited for apartment living?

I believe most dogs are suitable for apartment living. It depends on your ability to walk them daily and train them. They need to be highly socialized to pets and people. I have had dobermans and Mastiff in apartments. Giant Breeds are pretty lazy so they actually do well. Dogs that are high strung with a lot of energy, are going to give you more run for your money, requiring a lot more mental and physical work to keep them calm. Another factor is age. Sadly many owners are having problems with large/Giant breeds in rentals period. I try to get people to think of the life of the dog. I would think I would look at training ability with potty training because one breed listed is notorious to have potty training issues. So, a lot goes into this.

commented question What dog breed is the best off leash?

I would recommend not having any dog off leash, without extensive training on recalls. For the dogs protection!

answered a question Why do dogs lose their nails?

It could be several different reasons, a damaged nail, a nail that had been caught on something. A nail infection etc or an underlying medical issue.

commented question What is the best product to clean urine smell?

Natures Miracle is superb for cat urine. However, I have seen a lot of people do not use it correctly. If the urine is down in the pad, it must be covered with the product and fans to dry. The smell does not go away until its dried. I clean many things with Vinegar.

answered a question Where do you buy your dog food?

I feed Costco's Kirkland Domain. I always recommend pet owners to look up the ingredients of the food their dog is eating. As a groomer, I have seen with my eyes tons of dogs, with allergies, skin problems, and ear infections. Upon switching to a better food these things disappear. I always recommend http://Dogfoodadvisor.com so they can inform themselves. I also try to remind them, the ingredients of the treats is important to if their is an allergy.
