answered a question Why does my dog snap at the air?

Not to scare you, but at times dogs snap at the air because they can be showing symptoms of a partial seizure. A partial seizure is caused by abnormal electrical activity within a relatively small portion of the brain. This occurred in my pup right before he passed away :( This isn't always the case, but it's definitely something to consider.

answered a question Why does my dog have whiskers?

The hair follicles at the base of whiskers have several nerves that send messages to a dogs brain. When a dog feels these vibrations, it helps your dog sense approaching dangers!

answered a question Is there a way to calculate how much water a dog needs a day based on weight?

Dogs typically need 1/2 to 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight every day! You can life some skin at the back of your dogs beck and release it to see if your dog is well hydrated. If the dog is well hydrated, the skin will go quickly right back into place.

answered a question Why does my dog drool in the car?

It is possible that dogs can get carsick which in turn, causes your dog to be nauseous and drool. Another reason a dog may drool in the car is because he/she has anxiety in cars. My dog for example drools and shakes because she thinks she is being driven to the vet. However, dogs might also drool from being excited and anxious to get somewhere that they really love, like the dog park!

answered a question Why does my dog lick my leg?

When a dog licks your leg, it typically means that they are showing you affection. Endorphins are released and it makes your pup feel good. It is also a sign that your dog is showing you love and respect. At times, my dog will lick my legs when I'm wearing lotion or after I went for a run and am sweaty. By tasting you, dogs are feeling out your mood and what happened while you were away from them or out of the house.

answered a question Why does my dog bite me when playing?

This is typically a behavior that happens because your dog is excited and engaged in play. If you observe your dog engaged in play with another dog, play biting often occurs. It is a hard behavior to stop when your dog is playing with you because your pup doesn't know any better. Play is play for them. Make sure when teaching your dog that biting is unacceptable during play with you, that you don't hit or scold them. This can cause confusion for your dog as he/she might not know why they are being punished.

You have to decide what mouthy behavior is acceptable. Teach the dog how to bite softly. Again, it's an inate behavior and considered normal for your pup.
