You can't stop a dog from shedding completely. If your dog is shedding excessively you first want to be sure it isn't health related such as allergies, skin issues, parasites, stress, etc. If that is not the case then investing some time into regular brushing will help a lot. You can also reduce shedding dramatically by regular brushing. A slicker brush works well for short haired dogs but for fluffy double coated dogs you will need an undercoat rake (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U204CD4 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...)) like the Paws Pamper. Depending on how much your dog is shedding you may need to brush several times a week, especially during shedding season. It is completely normal for dogs to shed this time of year as shedding/molting occurs twice a year, during the fall and spring. As long as you are sure there are not other factor involved like stress, diet, hormones, parasites, skin conditions, etc. then it should not be a cause for concern. Shedding is definitely normal this time of year, many dogs shed/molt twice a year, usually fall and spring. Shedding will never completely stop but it should slow down over the next few weeks, be sure you are removing the loose hair and not allowing it to become matted as that can cause skin irritations. Other culprits of shedding are skin conditions, old age, hormonal changes, stress, diet, and improper brushing. Dogs will often pull out their own hair when they are uncomfortable or stressed. The hair may simply be too long or matted and it's causing them to be hot. They may have a skin condition or if there have been any recent changes in their environment (new dog, baby, moved, etc.) they may be stressed. If none of these seem to be the problem consult your vet.
