answered a question | okay for my dog to eat dirt? hi there, I wouldn't recommend your dog eating dirt as there are tons of bugs and worms and microbes and potentially dangerous things in the ground. however, if you catch your dog eating a small amount of dirt here or there while they're playing or digging, they're likely completely fine and there's generally no need to worry! |
answered a question | Why does my dog have a dry cracked nose? This could be due to lots of things, including dehydration or allergies. I would bet though that during the winter months, it's likely due to the dry cold air! There are plenty of soothing balms that work on pup noses and paws during harsh weather. |
answered a question | Why does my dog eat dead worms? Dogs don't have hands like us - they investigate through smell and taste! Your pup is probably just trying to figure out what that gross little worm is. Or, even weirder, maybe they like the taste/texture and are seeking them out! :) I would bet though that they are just investigating as many pups do! Just make sure they aren't exhibiting signs of illness after eating the worms. |
answered a question | Why is my dog scared of everything? If your dog is a rescue, he could be suffering from anxiety and "doggie ptsd" due to an abuse history. Unfortunately many pups have abuse histories, apparent or unapparent, that make them skittish and anxious. Your pup may also lack self-confidence! Regardless, a consistent routine and a safe, loving home will help with time. Additionally, training with a specialist might alleviate some of his behaviors. |
answered a question | Why does my dog shake in the car? Many dogs shake in the car because they are nervous or scared! Travel anxiety is super common, generally due to dogs associating car rides with stressful things like trips to the vet or groomer. Other dogs get nervous about the sensation of moving at high speeds. You can try things like associating the car with fun places like the dog park, investing in a Thundercoat or other compression jacket, or playing calming music/talking to your dog during the ride. |
