answered a question | Why does my dog follow me? Dogs are pack animals. You are the leader of their pack, so they will follow you and await your commands. If it is something you would like change then you can teach your dog independence. People do this by crating their dog for a small period of time while they are home. It just shows your dog "hey you can have some alone time". |
answered a question | Why does my dog poop and pee in the house? It is important to keep your dog on a schedule, such as after they eat, 30 minutes later walk them. I also find that a lot of my clients leave large bowls of water out. Look up your pets size online and see how much water they need a day because they may have access to more than they need and if it is a free for all and not scheduled they may need to pee more frequently than normal. Also look at how they were trained, it may be that you should start the training over. Put out pee pads, reward them for peeing outside, etc! |
commented question | Anyone have experience with separation anxiety? If you can afford it try hiring someone to walk your dog during the day. Chew toys and Kong's are always helpful to reduce anxiety. I have also left music on so the dog doesn't feel alone. cesar millan has some great training videos on how to reduce the anxiety! |
commented question | How can I stop my dog from barking at the neighbor's dog? I purchased a sonic egg from petsmart that emits a high frequency sound when they bark. It is safe and can be used outdoors on "High". It has been effective for most the dogs I watch, Also they make collars that spray a gross smell when they bark. these are the safest that I have heard about! |
commented question | What can I give my dog for bad breath? It was brought to my attention recently that depending on the dog and their diet, you should have their teeth cleaned every 4-5 years by a vet. If you notice a lot of brown plaque on their teeth you should bring it up to your vet. Bad teeth can lead to other problems later. Treats for temp solution. |
commented question | Why does my dog hump other dogs? Dogs hump to dominance over other dogs. In a group of dogs they will try to determine who is the leader and this is one way that they establish this. Dogs will also roll over onto their backs to show submission that they agree the other dog is the leader. |
commented question | Why is my dog eating grass? Hello Pieter! Dogs often eat grass when they have an upset stomach or need fiber to help push things through! Try paying attention to how often your dog has a bowel movement and if they seem to be having trouble try adding a fiber rich food to their diet. |
