answered a question Why does my dog pee when he's excited?

You said it - he pees when he gets exceptionally excited and this is also way of showing he is submissive, intimidated, or to show he is not a threat. It sounds like for your dog, he is just showing excitement. My family dog does this especially when we have guests over. The way to stop this is reduce the excitement level when things normally induce this behavior. For example, when you get home or someone comes over, don't overexcite your dog by saying their name in a high-pitched voice or moving quickly. They do feed off of us, so if you're excited to see someone who is over, they will mirror that. You can also take them outside immediately so they can urinate there and maybe run around to let some of that excited energy out. If your dog is a bit more advanced, you can use some commands like sit, go to your place, down. Good luck!

answered a question Why does my dog smell like a skunk?

Either you dog has been sprayed by a skunk or they could have been in an area where a skunk has sprayed. There are other animals that have a stinky spray for self-defense (opossums, stink bugs, millipedes, and some caterpillars). Some animals don't spray even, but have a smell similar to a skunk - badgers, wolverines, marmot/rock chucks, and other varmints. If you dog has access to a large wooded area or goes through trash, and rolls in dirt, he/she may have picked up their smell in those places as well.

answered a question Why does my dog howl at night?

Dogs howl for a number of reasons including: ancestry (related to wolves), communication (they may be trying to attract attention, make contact with others, or to announce their presence), sickness or injury, or separation anxiety. I recently sat for a dog who howled in response to a firetruck driving by, so they may be responding to high-pitched sounds like sirens too.

answered a question Can I claim my dog on my taxes?

No. Second what Jenna said. I did find this article with 6 potential dog deductions: http://www.dogingtonpost.com/is-my-dog-tax-deductible/%3C/p%3E (http://www.dogingtonpost.com/is-my-do...) (http://www.dogingtonpost.com/is-my-dog-tax-deductible/ (http://www.dogingtonpost.com/is-my-do...))

answered a question Why does my dog hump me?

Most of the time this is just a way dogs show their excitement and [non-sexual] arousal. In unneutered and unspayed dogs under a year old, humping can be sexual, but in older dogs it can be a sign of dominance or a reaction to something exciting like a visitor arriving or being around another dog.
