answered a question Why does my dog eat cat poop?

It looks like there are many reasons why a dog might eat stool, here is some information I found:

Some veterinary nutritionists have suggested that dogs eat stool to replenish enzymes so that they are better prepared to digest their food.

If your dog eats stool, you should make sure it’s not because of a health issue. Some dogs will start eating feces when they aren’t absorbing enough nutrients, they have parasites, or they have issues with their pancreas.

If you clean up after your dog while he looks on, he may misunderstand your intent and try to copy your actions in some fashion by “picking up after himself”. Your dog might also see other dogs eating it and learn the behavior from them.

In many cases, a dog’s behavior can be linked directly to the owner’s behavior. Many dogs will eat stool simply for the attention that they get from their owner.

If possible, remove the opportunity by hiding the litter box, or using a covered litter box. They also make a products sold at some pet stores that you can mix with your cats food that will make their "stool taste disgusting, even to dogs".

answered a question How often should I bathe my yorkie?

There is no general time frame, it's really just whenever your dog gets dirty, or a little smelly, whenever they need it! That may mean every couple of weeks or every couple of months, or even longer. If bathing a dog with normal skin, once a month, use dog shampoo or human baby shampoo. If bathing more often, use a soap-free or moisturizing shampoo so you don't dry their skin out. And don't bathe more than once a week, unless there's an issue & your vet encourages it. Hope this helps! :) -Summer

answered a question Why does my parents' sheltie cough?

Hey Sara! I did a bit of research, and there's many forums with senior sheltie parents sharing their responses to this same question. I would bring it to the vet's attention, if the dog only coughed a couple times in a 24hr period, odds are the vet might not have noticed the cough on examination, and it would be important for them to rule out any other issues. I also read about a medication called "Torbutrol", prescribed by a vet and given to dogs for a bad cough and it sounds like it's highly effective. However, it is a narcotic, opiod analgesic as well as anti-tussive (cough suppressant) and pretty expensive. I would weigh the pro's and con's of using a strong medication though, and would only use if you think the cough is affecting your sheltie's quality of life. Another response I saw was about the dogs being overweight, and how the overweight dogs had more issues with the coughing. Maybe you can suggest to your parents (with vet supervision) a doggy diet and see if losing a few pounds would relieve some pressure they might have on their lungs. Either way, getting them to a healthy weight is essential for a long, healthy life :) I hope this was helpful & good luck with your fur baby! -Summer
