How long did it take for you to get your first client?

Hello all! I am a new sitter and was just approved a few days ago. I have jumped on this and shared my code/advertisement on a few local facebook dog pages, Nextdoor, Craigslist (although it was flagged so not sure what's up with that). I am also waiting on my new business cards. So very excited to get started sitting! I can't wait to be around new dog friends. Just wondering how long it took for you guys to get people interested in you and what works best. I would also be open and appreciative to any feedback regarding my profile as well as tips on how to gain new clients.

Thanks!!

Hi, Kelly. I've looked at your profile and it looks great to me! It's well written and your passion comes through loud and clear. If I were to make a suggestion at all it would be to consider subbing a picture of that fantastic dog park mentioned in your profile for one of the pics of your sweet Penny Lane. Not a huge deal, just a thought.

It took about a month to get my first client. Pricing myself a bit below the other sitters in my area helped get things moving.

Also, many, many of us have recently been flagged on Craigslist. It wasn't your fault.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your feedback. I was thinking I would snap a photo of the dog park when the snow and ice clears up. We just had a winter storm over here. I am trying to keep my prices the lowest. I realize I might not really make a big profit off the bat, but it will help me get some good reviews anyway I hope.

It took me between 1-2 months this time of year with no outside advertising. Of course a lot depends on the supply and demand in your area, but Rover has become a lot more well-known in the last couple years since I started.

My first was pretty immediate. I had my prices down very low in the beginning, and after the third customer (which was after a month) I gradually raised my prices up. :)

It took me a few weeks to book my first client. After that it was about 3 months until I had to stop accepting new clients. I don’t know if I got lucky or what, but I have so many clients that I was getting overwhelmed. Now 5 months later I have a great group of regulars and I no longer accept new clients. If you want your business to grow, I suggest concentrating your efforts on client appreciation. Pet owners can tell who is dedicated and who is just doing this for extra money. Your clients are your most valuable asset. Cultivate those relationships, because they will be instrumental in your overall success. Good luck!!

It took me about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks to get my first client...without advertising...and I feel pretty lucky about that!

I also just started, let me say hi and welcome! I got lucky I guess with the holidays coming up, it took me only a week and I've had a couple of bookings. Your profile looks great and the passion you have really comes out. I set my prices a bit below other top sitters and walkers in my area to start, you can always change them later to meet the new demand. I have now just started to advertise outside of the Rover website, so hopefully this will help with new clients! Good luck!
