why is my dog eating weird?

I have a 6 month old german shepherd and before i got her she was being starved by the lady she was staying with literally 10 minutes into the car ride she barfed a balloon and the vet even told me she's under weight and she LOVES eating she even eats non edible things sometimes like toy stuffing but strangely enough she's okay every time and she poops just fine, recently i started feeding her 2 times a day because she's at that age now but i've been noticing recently that she hesitates to eat like i have to repeat several times that she can eat now and she takes breaks in between eating and it's just so weird to me because she literally eats like a pig or used to i think its important to know i space out when she eats like i feed her and a lot of hours later she eats again.

A dog that self moderates eating and paces oneself is fantastic. Lots of dogs who scarf down their food end up vomiting it back up, so creative pet people developed slow feeder bowls/accessories/toy wobblers. Feeding twice daily is more ideal than once a day.

During the course of training your puppy, weight gain is almost guaranteed to happen. It’s great that your vet is advising you.

As for eating non-edible objects that is a condition called pica. You definitely want to discourage it and start practicing the leave it and drop it commands.
