why does my dog sometimes like to break stuff while I'm away?

My dog sometimes breaks things in the house by chewing on them. Most of the times it's papers that are laying around or she finds a sock somewhere. But she also takes thing off the table and even out of the astray. And today she started on the wooden coasters that have been there since we got her. She has also chewed up half her own basket and some of her toys already but we don't care much about that because it's her stuff. She is alone almost on a daily basis, but the chewing doesn't always happen. We can't seem te find a good reason why she is doing it one day and not the next. She can be alone for 8 hours and not break a single thing. But sometimes we are away for maybe 1 hour and she has found something to break again. If anyone has any tips for me then I'd love to hear them. There are options of locking her up or using some kind of muzzle but we want that to be our last option.

Ps she is 1 year old now

Creating a dog or using an indoor playpen would be the best ways to keep her safe. A mounted water bowl could be added for long times away. You definitely want to limit that destructive chewing to prevent emergency surgical vet visit. A muzzle would not be recommended because it would interfere with ability to pant (cool and regulate body temperature). I’d recommend giving her the following item to work on chewing, whether it’s to alleviate boredom or teething: Freeze food (if eating dry, add a bit of water, and it will puff up) in a Kong and let you dog work on licking/ chewing “pupsicle” meal. For items you don’t want dog to chew ever, including when you’re home, pick up BitterApple spray to spray items in advance.
