From my experience, there is. My shelter adopt was so depressed she barely moved for a couple weeks, just staring into space. The myth that animals just respond to outside environmental curse is untrue. However, your dog may just be under stimulated. Try active participation, problem-solving toys

My cat gets depressed in the Winter and eats more. Light has worked keeping her from being sad. Only if it's been dark, dogs and cats need light during the day.

Absolutely. Dogs can definitely be depressed. I would suggest taking your little one to the vet if his mood doesn't seem to improve and they can help. A lot of times it could mean they are not getting enough exercise and they are bored and understimulated....try changing up his routine a little

I second Curtis, at times just sitting with them and reassuring them. Even singing to them in a nice calm tone can help. Start off small with having to look for things with food. Like get a toy and put treats for them to look for, first comfort them with singing. Also if there has been less sunlight during the season. Like Winter on the East Coast in the US. Light works too indoors during the day, if it's cloudy turn on the lights. Make it light when day and dark when night. Taking them out for a walk and interacting with things. Like flowers or looking at people walking by could help.
