Why doesn't my dog show interest in anything?

My husband and I adopted a 3 year old husky, spitz mix few days ago. He's very calm, doesn't really do anything the whole day, doesn't jump, bark, run or show any kind of excitement. He does play ball with me a bit here and there, but looses interest in that pretty soon too. Ive tried encouraging him with treats, but he just doesn't care about anything. I've seriously never seen a dog this calm and nonchalant. Any tips to get him more energetic or is it a lost cause?

He definitely isn't a lost cause! It is possible he just needs some time to open up. When I rescued my pup, she didn't want to eat, or play but after a few months was playing fetch, and tug of war and acting just like a regular dog! Just continue to work on building trust and give it time.

aren't the spitz breeds also sometimes kind of self reliant (I remember reading that abt shiba inus) and less dependent on attention from ppl? I remember thinking they might be too cat like for my personal taste.

Could be for sure! I think giving it more than 3 days would be a good idea to judge if it's the breed or if he just needs some time. :)

My Spitz was lost when we brought him in. We didn't find his family and slowly built a bond. I asked God for a dog telling him He could bring one to the door if He wanted!

Buddy would look to me for reassurance when he was tense, and we built a close relationship. He was never one to cuddle, yet he learned he could trust me. He became the caretaker of other animals in our home. If we didn't see that someone wanted outside, he would come get me. He liked fresh filtered water and would let me know when the bowl needed filled or changed to his liking. He was hesitant of the dog he saw in the metal water bowl and would sneak up on it to get a drink!

No matter the personality, they learn to trust and love you in their own way. Just be calm, patient, and consistent.
