Why is my dog eating his poop?

If your dog eats poop, you should make sure it’s not because of a health issue. Some dogs will start eating poop when they aren’t absorbing enough nutrients, they have parasites, or they have issues with their pancreas. All coprophagic dogs should be examined by a veterinarian.

There are many reasons dogs may eat their own poop, from vitamin/enzyme deficiencies to attention seeking behavior. You should pay attention to, but not be alarmed if your dog is eating their poop. There are many ways to stop your dog from doing this via training, or aversion methods. The reasons why dogs do this and how to stop them from continuing is too long to list here.
