What is experience with (or thoughts/advise about) neutering a dog at the age of 5?

Hello, I am not originally from the U.S. and where I come from we don't spay/neuter dogs unless they are street animals. I am now asked to neuter my dog every time I move to a new apartment or register for a dog park... so I feel pressured to do it. However, my dog is now 5 years old (a Goldendoodle). I hope to gather some info and advise from other's experiences of neutering their dogs after the age of 5... I am particularly concerned that it's now too late and it might impact his emotional and very warm personality, playfulness, happiness, etc.
