About Kristen D.:

I am a full-time traveling pet and house sitter who specializes in both short and long-term (vacation) overnight care in your own home. I would love to travel to your home when you cannot be there to care for your animals. Your precious animals will feel more comfortable in their own environment and I will love them and give them the same respect I give my own little guy. Due to the fact my Chihuahua, Chico, is timid and shy around other dogs, I do not bring him with me. He gets to stay at home while Dad works.

By staying in your own home, your pet/s will maintain their own routine while remaining in a very familiar environment. I have found this alleviates anxiety in animals who are prone to separation anxiety. In addition, many owners have told me that they feel much more comfortable having me in their home, not only to care for their animals, but home as well. I am extremely clean and respectful of other people's homes and love doing things around the house in your absence. Many clients have mentioned that they cannot even tell I was in their home!

I have had many different breeds of dogs my whole life, from big to small and am currently raising a four year old Chihuahua who is my little baby. I have also raised ferrets for many years.

I know what it takes to care/sit for cats and dogs, in addition to chickens and birds, and would love the opportunity to care for yours! I have a special place in my heart for ferrets and am willing to care for them as well. I have raised three ferrets (one of which needed medication administered daily due to Adrenal Gland Disease) and they are wonderful, entertaining, smart pets.

I am an honest person with a passion for dogs, big and small. My mission is to make sure your pet's needs are taken care of while you are will not have to worry!

I provide text, e-mail, and photo updates for you when you leave your beloved pet with me for extra peace of mind. I am always available and reachable while you are out of town should you need to get a hold of me.

Please note, If you have an iPhone or Android, has an app that allows us to stay connected while you are gone. Pictures and notes are sent straight to your phone for much easier access. One of my favorite things to do while your pet is in my care is to take pictures of them to send to you so you do not have to miss them as much. My subjects are always very willing to have their pictures taken for their parents!

I know that leaving your pet/s behind while you travel can be anxiety provoking; my mission is to alleviate all anxiety and to provide superior care for both your home and animal/s.

Kristen D.'s Experience:

I have had dogs practically my whole life and my first experience with owning a family dog was when I was three years old. Ever since, I have never been without a dog. I have also raised ferrets for the last 9 years. I lived in Southern CA for ten years where I routinely sat for two dogs, one of which needed very special care due to illness.

I moved back to the Bay Area over four years ago and have routinely sat for both dogs, cats, and ferrets. I also know how to administer medication to both ferrets and dogs. I currently have a Chihuahua that is very demanding and needs constant attention so I am definitely aware of what it takes to care for any kind of temperament. I am very patient with dogs/pets of all kinds and am very reliable and will make your animal feel as though they were my own. I have a very good record/references that will testify to my great pet sitting skills. Making pet owners happy and comfortable while they are away is my number one priority.

I am also a member of Professional United Pet Sitters and have successfully passed a background check through I have been a part of the Rover family for over two years and have been rated one of the top sitters in the Bay Area.

How long have you been a dog lover? Tell us about your history with dogs.

I have had dogs my whole life, beginning at age 3. I have had many different breeds: Lahasa Apso, Terrier/Poodle, Shar Pei/Lab, Akita- and currently-a four year old Chihuahua named Chico. I have been around dogs for about 29 years and definitely know what it takes to care for them; they are like my babies. My base rate begins at $55/night, but may lower or raise depending on the services needed (length of time gone, overnight stays, just feeding/walking, number of animals, special needs, location, etc,). Please let me know if you have other animals or more than one dog as I charge an extra $10 per night for additional animals. For example, it would be $55/night for one dog/animal and $60/night for two animals, such as a dog and a cat.

Due to the fact I charge by night, if you would like me to stay with your animal past noon on the last day, I charge a daycare fee of $25. If you would like me to travel outside of my 15 mile radius, I calculate mileage going to and from your home. This fee is then applied to your total stay price, as it is not applied nightly.

I also watch cats as many of my clients have both cats and dogs. I have also sat for clients who have birds, ferrets, and chickens. Your home and animals will be safe with me while you are away. Although I have my own dog, I am able to pet sit for both short and long durations, as my husband works from home and cares for our little guy when I am not there.

What would you like to know about a dog before sitting him or her? Do you have any breed preferences?

I would like to know if the dog is a rescue, has any history of abuse/neglect/harm or has ever inflicted harm to someone else. I would also like to know of any medical conditions/allergies I should be aware of. During a meet and greet, in which I meet you and your precious pup/s prior to your leaving, I like to ask a series of questions. I like to get as much information as possible so that by the time I sit your pet, I am familiar with their overall routine.

Some other things I like to know are your pet's feeding/walking/bathroom schedule, their propensity to damage things, how much time and attention they require, special needs, etc. I also like to have vet information and emergency contact information. Whatever your pet/s needs are, I am very thorough and follow directions extremely well. I do not have any breed preferences.

I have cared for the following breeds:
Alaskan Malamute
Boston Terrier
Yorkshire Terrier
Golden Retriever
English and French Bulldog
German Shepherd
Siberian Husky
Shar Pei
Australian Shepherd
Basset Hound

I would love the chance to watch YOUR special breed!

Do you have reliable transportation in the event of an emergency?

Yes, I have a very reliable Honda CRV that can transport your pooch to dog parks, doggie day care, the vet (if need be) and other great adventures!

Are you comfortable administering medication?

Yes, I have done it before. I just ask that you leave me a detailed guide on how exactly the medication needs to be administered-and any other specifics regarding medication that I need to be aware of. I have given pills on numerous occasions as well as oral injections. (I recently had a client with a 12 year old Australian Shepherd with epilepsy; I administered many pills each day while in my care with a pill popper/syringe as well as oral injections).

Are you willing to do additional tasks at my home while I'm away
(e.g., water plants, bring in the mail)?

Yes, I am very willing. I don't want you to have to worry while you are away! I like to leave your home better than the way you left it and am extremely clean. I collect mail, take out the garbage, water plants, pick up dogs from kennels/doggie daycare, etc. I am always happy to help in any way I can. Just ask! Some price adjustments may need to be made depending on the tasks that are required.

How much time do you plan on spending with my dog each day?

Since I only sit for one client at a time and am a full-time pet sitter, I can provide both short and long-term overnight care in your home. Please let me know should you want a live-in sitter who stays in your home 24/7, as rates differ for this kind of service. I love overnight sitting and will shower your animal with lots of belly rubs, long walks, and tons of affection and attention. I can also just stop by briefly if that is what your dog requires. No matter how much of my time your dog requires, I will always send you photo, text, and e-mail updates so that your vacation/time away from home can be spent not worrying. I want you to have a great time and to know that your dog is in great hands and is being loved. I also love cats and will take great care of them for you as well. I care for animals both big and small-not just cats and dogs-I have watched multiple chickens before, as well as ferrets, birds, parrots, fish, maintained Koi ponds, and I have even tended to beehives. I welcome all animals!

Let's plan a meet and greet so you can get to know me and I can get to know you and your animals :)

Please message me if you would like me to care for your animals or if you have any questions I may answer for you.

***Please note, new Rover members will receive $20 off their first booking. Just ask me for my personal promo code.

I look very forward to hearing from you!

Age: 3 years, 10 mo. old
Weight: 5 lbs.
Breed: Chihuahua

Chico is a feisty three year old with a very loving demeanor. He loves attention and cuddling and is very protective of his owners. He can be very shy upon meeting someone for the first time but will warm up quickly.

Kristen just finished taking care of our senior dog for two and half weeks. She kept us updated.. Was patient when she had some stomach issues.. By changing her food, going to the pet store etc.. House and dog were in good shape when we came back.

Great experience
Thanks Kristen! All went very well again!
We hired Kristen based on ratings and references. She took care of our senior dog Anna who needs frequent attention and small feeds and medication. We left in a hurry and came back to find house spotless, Anna happy and safe and extremely well taken care of. Very reliable because she texted us with Anna's pictures, updated us through rover so that we were worry free!! I hope she does not too booked for our next trip. We have already hired her for our summer trip. Thanks Kristen. (Collapse)

First time to meet up so Kristen can see how my "temperamental" Brady is! Kristen has a nice, calm presence which is perfect for him since he can get anxious very easily. I could tell he was intrigued with her right away on the walk when he went up and sniffed her. Good sign! Kristen was very detailed in all the questions she asked about Brady and I feel confident she will be great.

Kristen helps take the stress out of leaving our fur kids.
Kristen took care of our dog, Ribzy, over a long weekend and she did an amazing job. We had a horrible experience using our first Rover sitter but Kristen helped keep our minds at ease and also resolve issues with Rover. We enjoyed the pictures and messages Kristen sent every day, letting us know that everything was going well.
Franklin absolutely loved his time with Kristen and I loved knowing that he was in the best hands possible. I will definitely be reaching out to Kristen again when I need someone to watch my dog son. :)

Kristen watched my beloved animals off and on for years. She is trustworthy and so reliable and loves animals as much as I do. I recommend her highly!!! b

Kristen has always been willing to go above and beyond in caring for my animals. I previously owned two ferrets. When they got older, they needed constant care, and whenever I was away she would not only provide the every day care, she would also administer the necessary medication twice daily to ensure their health. With my chihuahua, she was willing to take the time to acquaint herself with a normally tempermental breed. Her patience has made her one of my little boy's favorite people, one of the few whom he does not attempt an ankle mauling on. In short, she is diligent and caring, willing to go the extra mile in order to ensure my pets were as pampered as if I were caring for them myself. (Collapse)

I trust Kristen completely to take very good care of my Labrador Retriever. She has watched her about 6 separate times and my dog is always happy and healthy when I return. A little known fact about Kristen is that she is also capable of taking care of birds - just ask her!

We can't say enough good things about Kristen and her loving care for our fourteen year old pup who has epilepsy along with failing hind legs. Kristen handled all of the challenges that a "special needs" dog must have with compassion and diligence. Kristen is a gem and is the very best pet sitter we have ever encountered on all levels. We will definitely ask Kristen to care for our pets again... she's absolutely amazing.
I left the country for 18 days and Kristen stayed in my home the whole time to care for my 12 year old Boxer, Daisy. Not only did she do a fantastic job with Daisy, who requires daily medications for epilepsy, but my home was in excellent condition upon my arrival. It was clear that Kristen takes her job very seriously-she even sent me daily status updates and photos of Daisy. She is highly professional and will work with you to ensure your needs are met in your absence. I did not worry at all while I was away. I highly recommend Kristen! (Collapse)

Kristen is a superb dog and cat sitter! We have 2 dogs and one cat, and she has taken care of them many times while we've been out of town. Our pets love her, and we have absolutely no worries leaving them with her. She sends regular updates and pictures, and is also wonderful about dealing with all of the other house-related details.
