About Angela A.:

At my house, your pet will have:
+ two friendly dogs and two cats to play with
+ a pet door with free access to indoors and outdoors
+ a securely fenced yard (six foot wooden privacy) to romp around
+ all organic lawn care
+ enough space to get some alone time if s/he wants it
And of course lots of love and attention from me!

About this sitter:
I work at home as a Research Associate, and I have always been an animal lover. My dogs and I enjoy having extra company. My yard is a certified wildlife habitat, which means there are lots of birds and squirrels to watch.

How long have you been a dog lover? Tell us about your history with dogs.

My heart was melted by the first dogs I knew as a child, my uncle's Irish Setter name Rusty and my Grandma's Schnauzer named Gretchen. I thought Rusty was even cooler than Lassie, and Gretchen was just the cutest little thing. I didn't actually live with a dog (I did have cats and fishes) until about 10 years ago when I cared for a friend's dog in my home for several months while she was coordinating a big move. Sharing my home with a dog brought so much warmth and cheer that I knew I needed to adopt a dog of my own. So, I adopted Melo from the Denver Dumb Friends League.

I wanted to be the best adoptive dog parent I could be, so I read all kinds of books on puppy training, dog development, dog behavior, and nutrition. Melo and I took some positive training classes at Wag & Train where I learned that dog training is as much about teaching people as pets, and Melo earned Level 1 & 2 Good Behavior and Manners class certificates.

What would you like to know about a dog before sitting him or her? Do you have any breed preferences?

Any health concerns that I should be aware of, where your pet prefers to walk/run/play, if there is anything that your pet really likes or dislikes, what ever is unique about caring for your pet.

Do you have reliable transportation in the event of an emergency?

Absolutely. Alameda East is my hospital of choice and is a 10-15 minute drive from here. I could go to any emergency hospital that you prefer if the need (hopefully never!) arises.

Are you comfortable administering medication?

I can administer medication while you are away. Just let me know what method tends to work best for your pet.

How much time do you plan on spending with my dog each day?

I work from home so I am available to the pets all day. Dogs often need extra attention when their people are away; lots of love and play time can help reassure them in your absence.

If you have a backyard, please describe it.

I have a large back yard with a six foot wooden privacy fence for secure room to run, and a large dog door dog for easy access (and of course I'll provide door service for dogs who aren't familiar with pet doors).

Where will my dog sleep?

Where ever s/he is most comfortable--I'll try to keep it as similar to your routine as possible.

Where will you take my dog on walks? Tell me about it.

There is a dog park that is a short drive from my home for dogs who enjoy active and social time. Sand Creek Park is even closer for an on-leash walk in a nice urban wildlife area. We can always go for a walk around the neighborhood. And fetching in the yard is fun too. I'll do whatever your pet is most accustomed to and you are most comfortable with.

Angela A.'s Experience:

Melo and I both enjoy having dogs stay with us. Melo loves every person and dog he meets - he is gentle and playful with puppies, loves to run and romp with dogs near his own size, and he's respectful of smaller and larger dogs.

The hardest thing about pet-sitting is saying goodbye when they return to their families!

Melo and I completed Level 1 & 2 Good Behavior and Manners courses at Wag & Train. We both learned a lot in these classes; I learned that dog training is as much about teaching people to understand and communicate with dogs as it is about teaching dogs.

Are you willing to do additional tasks at my home while I'm away
(e.g., water plants, bring in the mail)?

You bet!

How much time do you plan on spending with my dog each day?

One hour per visit. If you need something different, just let me know.

Melo

Age: 11 years, 4 mo. old
Weight: 65 lbs.
Breed:

Melo is a 9 year old mystery mixed breed dog. I adopted him as a puppy from Denver Dumb Friends League and they thought he might be a German Shepherd mix, but he was a stray so no one knows for sure. He is unique! He is a gentle and calm dog (well, he's calm after the initial excitement of meeting new friends, that is), and often has a calming effect on other dogs. He loves every person (especially children) and dog he meets.

Lucky

Age: 2 years, 2 mo. old
Weight: 19 lbs.
Breed: Bichon Frise & Poodle

Lucky is a little dog that I recently found lying in the median of a busy road. He had no collar and no microchip, and I was not able to locate his family through any of the shelters or rescues and no one responded to the signs I posted, but while I was searching he kind of became part of my family.

He's an affectionate and cheerful little guy who likes to play, especially with dogs his size, but he also loves to nap. He was really fearful when I first found him, and he is still a bit guarded with new people on occasion, but he is becoming more relaxed and outgoing all the time. He seems to learn pretty quickly, he really loves treats.

As far as I can tell, Angela and her family kept my dog happy and busy. It was really nice that she is so laid back even though I had to make last minute change.

Our Simba had a fun time with Angela and Melo last weekend. He was in heaven with another dog to play with all day. I have already booked a second stay for Simba later this summer.

Our dog Mac enjoyed his stay with Angela. Angela is was in a great location for us because we were flying out of DIA. I would highly recommend Angela.

Angela is a great sitter! Bear seemed right at home and very comfortable when we came to pick him up. Her son was also very sweet with him. I loved that she gave updates during our trip so we knew he was doing well. We look forward to using her again! Thanks Angela!

Great set up for my pets stay. Bull, my big boy, liked Melo at first meeting and when we returned for his stay he knew where he was when I let him out of the vehicle. The 2 little dogs had their own room safely away from the rowdy big dogs. I left for my trip without worry for their care. Highly recommend, and will definitely place them with her again.

This is the first time we left our dog with a stranger. Rowdy made himself at home and felt comfortable at Angela's house. I would use Angela again in the future.
