Loving, responsible, friendly

Pet care experience

[update—fall 2020] I rejoined the full-time workforce a year ago and radically reduced my Rover availability. Please make sure you have a backup before approaching me to care for your pets; as much as I'd love to help, there's a good chance I won't be available. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience! Now, on with the introduction: I love dogs, and dogs love me. (Other animals, too.) I joined Rover.com because I want to spend more time around dogs during the week, as our lease and apartment size prohibit us from having any (although we do have an amazing cat—pictured in my profile photo). I don't take on a high volume of clients, so the pets I look after get much more individual attention than the ones out in large groups with the bread-and-butter dog walkers or the ones who are just one name on a long list for busy cat sitters. I aim to make animals and their human companions as happy as possible, and I hope that's reflected in my reviews. I'm a fine artist (painter) and also an engaged dad, which means two things: (1) that I am also available to do pet portraits, and (2) that my young son (b. late 2012) sometimes accompanies me when I'm taking care of pets. He's been my "assistant" ever since I started on Rover. He shares my love and respect of dogs and cats. If your pet doesn't respond well to children, please let me know so I know to send my son to do some other job instead. I'm always looking forward to meeting more animals and people in the neighborhood!

Yotam gave the best care to our two cats while we were out of town. He was professional and truly an animal lover. Our cats needed medication and he made sure everything was taken care of. We highly recommend Yotam!

Yotam is fantastic! He took care of our two cats over the holiday weekend and kept us up to date with picture and little notes. 5 stars.

Yotam was great with my 11-week old puppy Lemon. She can't go for walks yet so he dropped by to visit and play with her twice while I was at work and sent pictures both times. He asked if it'd be okay if his son came with him after school, which was fine with me since Lemon needs to socialize anyway, and he was super sweet with her too. Lemon was happy and relaxed when I got home from work, so I think she had a great time with them both.

Information Yotam Z. would like to know about your pet

I'm especially fond of larger breeds and affectionate dog behavior but I love all dogs—and animals—equally. Before sitting a dog I'd like to know how they are around other dogs and children (the neighborhood is full of them and I also have a young child who is drawn to dogs) and whether they need any specialized treatments such as medication, and instructions for administering it. I can't train your dog for you but I can do my best to follow any routines you're trying to establish.

A typical day

We will probably take walks around the neighborhood, especially on the promenade, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Cadman Plaza, and the dog run on the Columbia Heights hill. At their owners' discretion, I defer to dogs who prefer to stick to their well-established routes. During visits your dog will get lots of affection and as much active playtime as they can handle.
