Active and knowledgeable walker!

Pet care experience

Hi, I’m Yana. I’ve adored animals, especially dogs, for as long as I can remember. I pursued pet sitting throughout my education program and gleaned extensive experience with animal care since I was very young. I studied animal science in high school and marine biology in college. I was a vet tech assistant in high school where I worked exclusively with puppies. Then I had a marine mammal internship at the NY Aquarium. I regularly volunteered at dog shelters and have been pet sitting through Rover since 2015. I adopted my canine BFF in spring 2021, she is a sweet 40lb rescue mix and is very playful. I do not walk her with my Rover clients but if you specifically ask I am happy to bring her to socialize with your (big) dog. She is not suited to play with small breed dogs. I am only available to provide pet care services outside of my home at this time. If your dog home also has a cat I can help feed and water but unfortunately can’t socialize with the cat due to allergies. I am a very active person and run regularly. I also enjoy hiking and the outdoors. I have experience with large animals such as horses and pinnipeds, so canine care is second nature to me. I am very in-tune with animal care and behavioral cues. Because of my education and on-the-job training, I am extremely comfortable around mammals ranging in size from bunnies to labrador retrievers to beluga whales. I have great experience with rabbits as well, having had one of my own. I received my master's degree in management in spring 2020.

Yana is great! Yogi loves Yana- who is very kind with our yogi bear. She always shows up on time and is lovely - and we love that she takes a bit more time to inquire about yogis needs and tell us after how his walk went. We also love the photos from the walls!

Information Yana P. would like to know about your pet

I always do a meet-and-greet when booking a stay longer than one night so that I can get to know the pup. Does your pooch like to interact with people, kids, or other dogs? What are the limitations? Is he or she a jumper? Do they show aggressive behavior in certain situations? I am able to handle many special-needs canines, but I would like to know what to expect in advance. I’d also like to know about their feeding schedule, favorite treats and toys, and any medication that needs to be administered.

A typical day

I like to go for a long walk right off the bat with a new furry client to get to know them better. I’ll read their behavior and take the time to get them comfortable with me. After learning what types of activities the dog enjoys, I like to offer some play time. I’ll also make sure they have their favorite treats readily available. I love walking in parks and on trails. This is my favorite way to engage with a pooch. If you’re OK with it, we will go on some runs on-leash through the neighborhood, Greenbelt. I ask my human clients if they would like photo updates of their fur babies, and they almost always agree and appreciate it.
