Terrible experience.

We've had really great experiences with dog sitters on and off Rover in the last 15 years. I am not a person who leaves bad reviews typically, and even in this case I have given this careful consideration. This was my first experience using a house sitter to look after our adult beagle. I left instructions that if Biscuit is not sleeping or with Wenyi at all times, then she needs attention or wants something, like a potty break. I requested Biscuit be left behind the gate for no longer than 3-4 hours in our kitchen area if she needed to leave. I received a text that Biscuit ate through her dog gate downstairs while the sitter was upstairs. I was annoyed that Biscuit was left to her own devices long enough to do that, but later I received another message that the sitter was not in our home when it happened. This made me feel as though the sitter was not being honest. Our dog used the bathroom in probably 6 places on 2 different rugs and ripped open packages from Best Buy, the Gap, and other companies, which were in the living room, which was protected by the gate. I do not believe the sitter was attentive in this case, and I would not book her again. When I commented about the accidents in the living room, she said she didn't notice, but it was clear they were old accidents. The sitter responded that she took the dog out, but that she didn't usually go to the bathroom so she assumed the dog "didn't poop much." It was frustrating to come home to clean up potty messes after a long day of events and travel, and the living room rug is a family heirloom that requires specialized cleaning. Overall, this whole experience has me questioning whether I would book this service again, despite good experiences with dog boarding in the past. We have also had many in-home pet sitters and have never experienced anything like this.
