Experienced veterinary technician!!

Pet care experience

Hi! My name is Vanessa,I grew up in the bay area and after spending a year living in Hawaii, I moved home in 2019. I began pet sitting through Rover in 2019 and have met wonderful people and pet clients! Currently, I am a mom of two dog savvy boys as well as an overnight emergency room coordinator for a busy veterinary hospital. I have worked as a veterinary technician for 16+ years, pet sitter for 10, and and have sat on the board of three animal rescue organizations. Animals are my passion! I truly enjoy making pets as comfortable as possible while their families are away and giving those families peace of minds. I strive to provide a stress free family home environment for all the pets in my care. I am able to administer any kind of medications and even provide care for senior, chronically ill or disabled pets thanks to my years of veterinary experience. I offer family home style care so that your dog is integrated into our lives while they are with us. I treat them as my own! I do try to stick as closely as possible to the routine that your dog is used to at home in order to limit the stress of being in a new place. In addition to caring for dogs in my own home, I am available for caring for pets in your own home as well as offering dog walks and doggie daycare services. During my overnight work hours, boarding dogs stay home with my retired vet tech mom so that they are only left alone on rare occasions. I care for more than just dogs! Cats, reptiles, fish, livestock, birds, birds, and pocket pets are all welcome! When Your Dog Stays At My House, He/She Will: * Be able to stick to their normal routine as closely as possible * Will have supervision during the day & night * Will have access to a large, fully fenced & secluded backyard * Will enjoy walks in Wildcat Canyon and around my San Pablo neighborhood * May enjoy trips to either the Pinole dog park or Point Isabel * Will have the opportunity to make new human & canine friends * Will have the ability to play with other dogs if they choose to * Will have the option of enjoying quiet time When I care for your pet in your home: * Your pet is able to stay in his/her own home * You choose how many visits per day your pet needs * You may opt for overnight care or frequent visits throughout the day * My presence in your home will provide a 'lived in' look while you are away * I will be able to rotate lights, bring in the mail, take out the trash, or water plants as needed. I am a member of Pet Sitter's International. The world's largest education and resource company for professional pet sitters. I am a Certified Professional Petsitter and have completed many hours of coursework and passed a national exam in order to obtain that title. I look forward to meeting you and the furry ones in your life! Thank you for reading and please don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Overall, Vanessa’s entire family are a bunch of sweethearts. I felt like my pup was in good hands knowing that there were multiple family members able to watch over him. It was also comforting that Vanessa and her mom are in the vet industry and have many pets of their own in the house. I just wish there was tighter communication during the span of the sitting as reply times were very loose. This was a long time away, especially over Christmas and I also would’ve appreciated more updates and photos.

Great sitter for any dog comfortable with other dogs and cats. Mother and daughter are very knowledgable and good with dogs.

Things I knew: Vanessa works nights, there are other animals on the premises, I would not get money back for cancelling/modifying the reservation, Vanessa is the Rover (caretaker for my animals), her and her mother are both kind and knowledgeable people. Things I didn't know: Vanessa's mom takes care of animals during the days she is sleeping so there will be a lapse in responses (5 hours during the day for me) because her mother clearly does not have access to Vanessa's Rover. Vanessa is responsible for my pet but her mother is supposedly watching them (again this is the Rover's responsibility, not a family members). Just because people are kind and knowledgable does not make them suitable for caring for multiple animals. I wasn't going to get photos (which every Rover I've ever used has sent at least one a day). My pets would be filthy, smelly and itchy when being picked up. I am thankful I picked them up a day early because I honestly don't know that type of living conditions the house is in. We immediately had to bathe our dogs once we got home and wash all leashes/harnesses. To say I was beyond upset and disappointed in this Rover is an understatement. Yes, my dogs are "darling" and well behaved and I have multiple Rover ratings to prove this. Also, I am not sure of the feeding situation and if they separate animals or not but I gave them enough food for 3 full days (1 cup per dog daily in labeled bags) and I picked them up a day early with only 1/2 cup left which would mean they would not have been fed the last day. I fed them when we got home that night and they ate as if they hadn't eaten since we dropped them off. You know your pet the best and only want the best. If considering to book here, just be mindful of all the above.

It was our first time leaving our dog for such a long time, but knew he was in very experienced and caring hands. Vanessa was very responsive and sent pictures, our dog seemed very happy making some new dog friends.

Information Vanessa L. would like to know about your pet

I have no breed restrictions. I do prefer dogs who are good in the company of other dogs and who have never bitten a dog or person in the past. I am able to care for pups with anxiety and some other behavioral concerns as long as they do not present a safety issue. I recommend meeting prior to booking a stay with me to make sure that all involved are comfortable!
